Role Overview
Delta's Revenue Management IT organization is seeking a highly motivated Senior Cloud Developer to join the Flight Inventory Technology team. This role will be responsible for designing, developing and scaling next-generation applications leveraging cloud-native architectures, AI/ML capabilities, and up-to-date engineering practices that power critical Flight Inventory capabilities, enabling optimal seat inventory management and revenue optimization across Delta's network.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on full-stack engineer with strong expertise in Java-based microservices, AWS cloud technologies, and modern Single Page Application (SPA) frameworks. This individual will collaborate closely with product owners, architects, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and high-performing enterprise solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise-grade cloud-native applications.
- Build scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.
- Develop modern, responsive Single Page Applications (SPAs) using React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Design and implement event-driven solutions leveraging Kafka, AWS SQS/SNS, or other messaging platforms.
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain applications in AWS cloud environments.
- Develop and integrate APIs to support business-critical Flight Inventory workflows.
- Collaborate with business and technology teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Participate in architecture, design, code reviews, and technical discussions.
- Drive application performance tuning, reliability improvements, and operational excellence.
- Implement secure application design patterns, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
- Contribute to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and observability initiatives.
- Provide production support and troubleshoot complex application and infrastructure issues.
- Mentor junior developers and promote engineering best practices across the team.
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 4-7 years of software development experience.
- 3+ years developing cloud-native applications.
- 3+ years developing modern Single Page Applications (SPA).
- Experience building, deploying, and supporting production applications in cloud environments.
Backend Development-
- Strong proficiency in Java 11+.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and REST API development.
- Experience designing and developing microservices.
- Experience implementing event-driven architectures.
- Experience with messaging technologies such as:Kafka, RabbitMQ,JMS, AWS SQS/SNS
Frontend Development (SPA)-
- Strong experience building Single Page Applications using:
- React (preferred)
- Angular
- Vue.js
- Proficiency in:
- TypeScript
- JavaScript (ES6+)
- HTML5
- CSS3
- Experience with:
- State management frameworks (Redux, Context API, NgRx, Pinia, etc.)
- Responsive UI development
- Component-based architecture
- API integration
- Client-side authentication
- Experience building secure SPAs using OAuth2/OIDC and JWT authentication.
Cloud & Container Technologies-
- Experience deploying and supporting applications on AWS.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies:
- Docker
- Kubernetes and/or OpenShift
- Understanding of cloud-native application design patterns.
- Experience developing solutions using:
- AWS Lambda
- AWS Step Functions
- Databases
- Experience with relational databases such as:
- PostgreSQL
- SQL Server
- Oracle
- Experience optimizing SQL queries and troubleshooting database performance issues.
AI/ML Skills-
- Demonstrated experience using AWS AI/ML services such as Amazon SageMaker, Bedrock, and AgentCore.
- Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Kiro) to accomplish tasks such as generating and reviewing code, writing and maintaining tests, creating documentation, and debugging, while exercising sound judgment to validate and take ownership of AI-generated output.
- Understanding of prompt engineering, AI workflows, and/or model integration patterns.
DevOps & Operational Excellence-
- Experience using Git-based source control.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using:
- GitLab CI
- Azure DevOps
- GitHub Actions
- Jenkins
- Similar tools-Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability platforms.
