Role Description: The PhD opportunity in our group in the Department of Chemistry involves full time research at IIT Kharagpur, India. The selected candidate will design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and develop new methodologies or concepts in their chosen area of chemistry. Day-to-day responsibilities include literature review, planning and executing research tasks, maintaining laboratory records, and collaborating with group members and external partners.

The candidate will prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, contribute to conference presentations, and participate in group meetings, seminars, and departmental activities. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring junior students, assisting in teaching-related duties, and supporting the maintenance of shared facilities and instruments.

Qualifications

- Strong foundational knowledge in chemistry or closely related disciplines, with interest in experimental and/or computational research.
- Master’s degree (MSc, MTech, or equivalent)



in Chemistry or a relevant field from a recognized institution; eligibility to enroll in the PhD program as per IIT Kharagpur norms.
- Demonstrated ability to review scientific literature, formulate research problems, and design appropriate methodologies.
- Competence in scientific writing, including preparation of reports, theses, and manuscripts for publication.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working within an interdisciplinary research group and with external partners.
- Strong motivation, independence, and time-management skills to handle long-term projects and meet research milestones.
- Familiarity with modern laboratory techniques and instrumentation, or relevant computational tools and software, depending on the research area.
- Prior research experience, publications, or participation in research projects and conferences will be considered an advantage.
