Job Title: Modelling Sr. Engineer/ Associate Manger
Reporting to: leader NPI
Location- Bhimadole
Objective / Purpose To execute high-precision manual mold modifications for New Product Development (NPD). This role translates design concepts into green-size to ceramic, molds by managing shrinkage factors and draft angle accuracy. The engineer ensures digital designs are validated through physical test castings and downstream dimensional checks.
Span of Control Manpower Direct coordination with NPI Engineers, 3D Engineers, Production Associates and the Case Making team for modification and trial execution.
Output
Delivery of perfected 3D models and modified physical molds that meet quality targets for product launch.
Machinery
Oversight of CNC outputs with proper Modeling parameters.
Boundary Ownership
Custodian of the transition from "Design CAD" to "Ceramic Production Mold".
Job Responsibilities
- Modeling & Parameter Governance
- Apply accurate shrinkage factors to establish the required "green size" for the ceramic product.
- Perform checks on mold fitment, Mould finish after CNC milling.
- Prepare a modification report based on the previous test casting Data, and give inputs to the CAD Team.
- Manual Modification & Troubleshooting
- Execute manual mold modifications when required based on the ceramic product result to resolve functional and installation issues fitment ,dimensional issues and defects issues found during trials.
- Validate that modifications do not compromise the mold by performing "Before & After" dimensional comparisons.
- NPD Trials & Process Monitoring
- Lead test casting of milled molds to identify the gap between required output vs actual output in terms of fit form and function of product, mould related gap.
- Inspect draft angles post-milling to ensure they are not negative, preventing demolding failures.
- Conduct regular GEMBA in sample mold lines to observe the demolding process and identify risks.
- Downstream Quality Analysis
- Perform "KANSA" checks of sample pieces at all the stages Green, White Body and ceramic to ensure dimensional stability.
- Respond to deviations in the White Body or Kiln areas, analyzing loading gaps and dimensions not caught earlier.
- Prepare NPD trial reports and presentations for daily and weekly reviews with R&D; leadership.
- Team Alignment & Continuous Improvement
- Lead daily meetings with Associates to align on R&D; priorities and department updates.
- Collaborate with Case Makers to implement physical modifications based on trial results.
Identify and submit Kaizens focused on improving the modeling process or reducing project cycle times.
Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs)
Metric Modification Fidelity Trial Ready Rate (TRR) Target 100% Dimensional Accuracy in translating digital CAD intent into manual physical mold modifications. 95% Success on first mold release by ensuring zero negative draft angles are present prior to casting Shrinkage Precision ±0.5mm Variance between the "Green Stage" and "White Body" dimensions, validating ceramic material expertise.
Report Velocity Process
Stability <24 Hour Submission for all NPD trial reports and presentations to maintain departmental launch rhythm. Zero Incidence of loading gaps or dimensional errors at the Kiln stage through rigorous upstream Kansa checks.
Stakeholders
- Internal: R&D; Design Team (Source), Case Making Team (Partners), Production/Casting, White Body & Kiln Departments ,Molding Department (Downstream Customers), and R&D; Leadership.
Required Skills And Capabilities
- Technical: Proficiency in Manual molding, shrinkage factor calculation, and mold fitment analysis.
- Operational: Expertise in ceramic demolding processes, manual mold modification, and dimensional "Kansa".
- Behavioral: Adaptability for sudden troubleshooting and strict focus on "Before/After" validation
Qualifications
- Academia: Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (Ceramic Industrial Design).
- Work Experience: 5-8 years in Hand modeling and mold development, ideally within a manufacturing or R&D; setting.
- Additionally Digital Proficiency: Expertise in Creo CAD (3D & 2D), Think Design, and Design X to facilitate seamless design-to-mold transitions.
