The Advanced Materials Testing Centre is an integrated facility for qualification and performance evaluation of materials exposed to demanding service environments, including hydrogen, sour service, and aggressive corrosive conditions. Through controlled simulation of combined mechanical and environmental loading, the centre enables investigation of degradation mechanisms such as hydrogen damage, sulphide stress cracking, hydrogeninduced cracking, and fracture behaviour under servicerelevant conditions. These capabilities support material qualification, structural integrity assessment, and reliability evaluation of pipeline and structural components.
By consolidating specimen preparation, environmental exposure, mechanical and fracture assessment, coatings evaluation, and microstructural characterization within a single infrastructure, the centre delivers endtoend testing and postprocessing. This integrated approach reduces turnaround time, improves data quality, and strengthens correlations between material behaviour, microstructure, and inservice performance. The facility also supports advanced failure analysis, rootcause investigations, and the development of improved methodologies for pipeline integrity and nextgeneration energy infrastructure.
The role supports research and testing on corrosion behaviour, hydrogenmaterial interactions, and environmental degradation of pipeline steels and related alloys in the Advanced Materials Testing Centre. You will help develop laboratory capabilities, draft research proposals, and design protocols, standards, and customized tests for R&D; and engineering projects.
You will assist in executing and analysing corrosion and environmentalcracking experiments and contribute to data interpretation and reporting. The position requires close collaboration with the Materials & Corrosion and crossfunctional teams in fracture mechanics and materials characterization to support material qualification, testing programs, and failure investigations for global projects.
Location: Anjar (Kutch), Gujarat, India
Key Responsibilities
- Develop advanced laboratory capabilities to replicate oil & gas and energyservice operating conditions, including hightemperature, highpressure (HTHP) environments, to support product qualification, material evaluation, and performance testing.
- Demonstrate robust safety stewardship by upholding the highest industrial safety standards, ensuring safe lab operations, rigorous compliance, and a culture of proactive hazard identification and mitigation.
- Lead materials characterization activities including microstructural analysis and interpretation of materials tested under mechanical loading and environmental exposure.
- Oversee characterization of metallic materials using advanced microscopy techniques including SEM, EDS, and optical microscopy.
- Lead metallographic investigations to analyse microstructural features associated with material performance, degradation, and failure.
- Perform fractographic analysis of specimens subjected to fracture mechanics and environmental cracking tests.
- Support investigation of degradation mechanisms such as corrosion damage, hydrogen-assisted cracking, and environmentally assisted fracture.
- Collaborate with Materials & Corrosion and Fracture Mechanics teams to correlate microstructural observations with mechanical behaviour, corrosion performance, and crack growth characteristics.
- Lead failure analysis and root cause investigations involving microstructural defects, inclusions, phase transformations, and material degradation.
- Develop and standardize metallographic and characterization procedures for the laboratory.
- Interpret and document characterization results and provide technical insights supporting material qualification and integrity assessments.
- Support development of improved testing methodologies by integrating microstructural analysis with mechanical and environmental test results.
- Mentor junior engineers and researchers in materials characterization techniques and interpretation of microstructural features.
- Ensure proper documentation of characterization data and adherence to laboratory QA/QC practices and safety protocols.
