Remote · Full time or Freelance · Frequent travel to factory sites.
If you've spent the last couple of years working around machines — reading wiring diagrams, tracing a signal that shouldn't be noisy, understanding why a PLC output doesn't match what the HMI reports — this role will likely feel familiar. Much of the job is documented on paper.
The rest is what the machine is actually doing, which doesn't always match.
We're looking for someone who's comfortable in that gap.
What you've probably already done
- Worked with PLCs, SCADA, or HMIs in some form — any brand, any scale
- Pulled data from a machine and had to determine whether the reading was accurate or simply noise
- Worked with registers, tags, or firmware-level configurations to understand what a device is actually reporting
- Debugged a sensor or wiring issue with a multimeter before reaching for a laptop
- Some comfort with circuits, PCBs, or microcontrollers — even hobby-level counts
- Familiar with CNCs or welding controllers — Fanuc (FOCAS or MT-Link), Siemens (Sinumerik), Cloos (Qirox/Qineo), Nagel, etc.
What you'll be doing here
- Working with industrial data — Modbus, OPC UA,
MQTT — and making sense of what machines are sending
- Getting into controller-specific protocols where needed — FOCAS or MT-Link for Fanuc, OPC UA or S7comm for Siemens Sinumerik, Profinet or OPC UA for Cloos Qirox/Qineo, or whatever the machine on the floor happens to speak
- Connecting sensors and signals to a broader IoT/data pipeline
- Being the person who can tell whether an issue is wiring, firmware, or just a bad assumption in the data
- Based remotely, with frequent travel to factory sites — this isn't a role spent entirely behind a screen
What we're not looking for
- Someone who's only worked with simulated PLCs or lab setups
- A pure software profile with no hands-on machine exposure
- Someone who wants a desk job with no on-site or travel component
Open to both full-time and freelance/consulting arrangements, if you've got the field experience but a different kind of setup in mind.
If this sounds like the kind of work you already gravitate toward, send us your background — and if you've got a specific machine, protocol, or debugging story worth mentioning, lead with that.
