Marine Diesel Service Engineer (Naval & Defence Craft)

Base location: MIDC Bhosari, Pune, with extensive field deployment at naval dockyards, repair yards and onboard vessels, including NSRY Karwar and other coastal naval establishments

ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a hands-on Marine Diesel Service Engineer to join the Indo Group Service Team. This is a field-facing technical role responsible for the diagnosis, repair, overhaul and commissioning of marine diesel propulsion systems on military and naval craft. As authorised distributor and service partner for leading marine propulsion OEMs, we require an engineer who is equally confident with a fault-tree diagnostic and with a spanner in hand, and who can represent Indo Group credibly at naval yards and onboard operational platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Carry out hands-on repair, overhaul and preventive maintenance of marine diesel engines (Steyr Motors, VM Motori, HD Hyundai Infracore and allied propulsion systems) installed on naval and defence craft, including quick interceptor and patrol platforms.
- Perform fault diagnosis and rectification on engine mechanical assemblies, fuel systems, cooling and lubrication systems, HP air systems and associated marine engineering equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve electronic control (ECU), wiring harness and RPM or governor related defects, including replacement and recalibration where required.
- Attend to breakdowns at short notice at naval establishments and onboard vessels, restoring propulsion capability within agreed timelines.
- Conduct engine commissioning, bed trials, harbour acceptance trials and sea acceptance trials, and support installation and alignment of propulsion units.




- Prepare accurate service reports, defect reports, spares recommendations and job completion documentation for OEM and naval customer records.
- Liaise professionally with naval officers, dockyard authorities and OEM technical teams on-site, upholding Indo Group's standing as a trusted service partner.
- Adhere strictly to safety, security and dockyard protocols applicable to defence installations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- Diploma or equivalent trade qualification in Marine, Mechanical or Diesel Engineering. Ex-Indian Navy Marine Engineering (ME) background is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 8 to 10 years of hands-on experience servicing and repairing marine diesel engines, with demonstrable field repair, not purely supervisory, exposure.
- Direct experience with naval or defence craft, or fast interceptor and patrol boat platforms, is a significant advantage.
- Sound working knowledge of engine electronics, ECUs, harnesses and diagnostic tools.

ATTRIBUTES

- Willingness to travel extensively and deploy at short notice, including to coastal and remote naval locations.
- Physically fit for onboard and engine-room working conditions.
- Eligible to work within secure defence environments and obtain necessary clearances.
- Composed under breakdown pressure, methodical, and safety-conscious.
- Able to communicate clearly in English and Hindi, both verbally and in written reports.
