Looker & BI

- Deep hands-on Looker and LookML: explores and joins with correct join relationships and fanout awareness, symmetric aggregates, derived and persistent derived tables, aggregate awareness, Liquid parameterisation, user attributes and access filters, datagroups and caching policy, and the Looker API.
- Has owned a Looker instance as a governed enterprise asset — not just built dashboards in one — including Git workflow, model release and access model design.
- Strong dashboard and visualisation craft with defensible design reasoning; able to critique a dashboard and explain what to change and why.
- Experience of a semantic-layer migration where metric values had to remain identical.
- Working knowledge of at least one other enterprise BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or comparable).

Data warehousing & SQL

- Solid dimensional modelling literacy: star schemas, conformed dimensions, fact grain, SCD2, additive versus non-additive measures, and fanout and symmetric-aggregate problems in a BI tool. Must understand why a measure breaks when a join grain changes.
- Expert SQL including window functions and analytic aggregation, and the ability to read and rewrite generated SQL for performance.
- Understands raw / modelled / curated layering and why the semantic layer sits on curated data rather than reaching back into staging.

Google Cloud





- 9–14 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years on cloud data platforms and 2 years hands-on with Google Cloud.
- Robust BigQuery performance and cost skills from a BI perspective: partition and cluster pruning, materialised views, BI Engine reservations, slot behaviour under concurrency, PDT scheduling impact, and INFORMATION_SCHEMA-based diagnosis of slow or expensive dashboards.
- Working knowledge of Dataform, so reporting requirements are pushed into the transformation layer rather than solved with heavyweight derived tables.
- Understanding of IAM, policy tags and column- and row-level security as they interact with Looker access filters.
- Familiarity with BigQuery sharing, scheduled queries and exports, and Apigee-fronted data provisioning.

Desirable

- Media and newsroom reporting experience — content performance, audience reach and engagement, breaking-news dashboards, editorial and executive reporting rhythms.
- Arabic and right-to-left dashboard design and bilingual label management.
- Gemini in Looker / conversational analytics exposure.
- GA4, Amplitude, Emplifi, Tubular, NewsWhip and SEMrush metric semantics.
- Embedded analytics and Looker embedding / SSO for external partner delivery.
- Accessibility standards (WCAG) applied to dashboards.
