About the Role

Dalhousie Public School, New Chandigarh, is looking for an experienced and dynamic Headof Physical Training (PT) to lead the school’s Physical Education and sports programme.The role involves planning and implementing a comprehensive physical training programmefor students, overseeing the PE department, developing sporting talent, maintaining highstandards of fitness and discipline, and creating a strong culture of sports and physicalwellbeing across the school.

Key Responsibilities

Physical Education & Training

- Plan, coordinate and oversee the school’s Physical Education and fitness programme across age groups.
- Develop structured PT schedules focusing on strength, stamina, agility, flexibility,coordination and overall fitness.
- Ensure age-appropriate physical training and sports activities for students.
- Conduct and supervise PT classes, fitness assessments, drills and conditioning sessions.
- Introduce students to a wide range of sports and physical activities.
- Identify students with sporting potential and support their development through appropriate training programmes.

Sports Development

- Develop and implement the school’s overall sports development strategy.
- Coordinate training programmes for school teams across various sports.
- Work with individual sports coaches to set training objectives and performance standards.
- Prepare students and teams for inter-school, district, state and national-levelcompetitions, wherever applicable.
- Monitor student and team performance and maintain appropriate records.
- Organise trials, selections, practice matches, sports camps and internal competitions.
- Encourage participation in sports while maintaining a balance between competitive and recreational activities.

Department Leadership





- Lead and supervise the Physical Education and Sports Department.
- Prepare annual and term-wise sports plans and training schedules.
- Allocate responsibilities and training schedules among PE teachers and coaches.
- Monitor the performance and effectiveness of PE staff and coaches.
- Conduct regular departmental meetings and review progress.
- Mentor and support PE teachers and coaches in improving their coaching andteaching methodologies.
- Coordinate with school leadership regarding sports-related requirements,achievements and future plans.

Sports Infrastructure & Equipment

- Oversee the effective utilisation and maintenance of sports grounds, courts,gymnasiums and other sports facilities.
- Prepare requirements for sports equipment, uniforms and training material.
- Maintain proper inventory and ensure responsible use of sports equipment.
- Coordinate with the administration for development and improvement of sportsinfrastructure.
- Ensure that all sports facilities are used safely and appropriately.

Student Safety & Discipline

- Maintain high standards of discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.
- Ensure appropriate warm-up, cool-down, hydration and injury-prevention practices.
- Follow established school protocols for student safety during training andcompetitions.
- Supervise students during sports events, tournaments, camps and sporting trips.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and encouraging sporting environment.

School Events & Activities

- Plan and coordinate the school’s Annual Sports Day and other major sporting events.
- Organise inter-house competitions, athletic meets and sports leagues.
- Support the school in hosting inter-school tournaments and sporting events.




- Coordinate participation in external competitions and tournaments.
- Encourage students to represent the school at higher levels of competition.

- Strong leadership and team-management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Physical Education, fitness and sports training.
- Ability to manage and motivate students across different age groups.
- Strong organisational and planning abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and implement structured sports programmes.
- Strong understanding of student safety and injury prevention.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, coaches, school leadership and parents.
- Passion for developing a strong sporting culture within a school workplace

Qualifications & Experience

- B.P.Ed./M.P.Ed. or equivalent qualification in Physical Education from a recognised institution.
- Relevant certifications in sports coaching, fitness, first aid or related areas will be anadvantage.
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in Physical Education and sports, preferably in areputed school or educational institution.
- Prior experience in a leadership/coordinating role within a school sports departmentwill be preferred.
- Experience in preparing students for competitive sports at district/state/nationallevel will be an advantage.
