Steady is building a people-first emotional wellbeing ecosystem centred around something fundamentally human: being heard.
We are building systems that connect people with trained listeners while developing a broader ecosystem across Individual, Campus and Corporate environments.
We are now looking for someone who can take complete ownership of the Listener & Psychology Operations function.
This is an early-stage leadership role for someone who wants to build the system, not simply participate in it.
What you’ll own
You will be responsible for building and running the people infrastructure behind Steady’s support ecosystem.
Listener Operations
Recruit and screen volunteer listeners.
Rebuild and scale our listener cohort.
Manage onboarding and activation.
Maintain listener engagement, accountability and retention.
Establish ongoing feedback and performance systems.
Training
Own the Listener Training Program.
Improve training material, exercises and SOPs.
Coordinate training cohorts.
Evaluate whether listeners are ready to begin supporting users.
Build continuous learning and refresher systems.
Psychology Network
Identify and recruit psychologists, psychology graduates and postgraduate psychology students.
Build a reliable network of psychology professionals who can contribute to training, supervision, research and program development.
Help establish appropriate professional boundaries and escalation pathways.
Quality & Safety
Develop systems for reviewing listener performance and conversations.
Help define what listeners should and should not handle.
Develop appropriate escalation protocols for sensitive or high-risk situations.
Work with qualified professionals where clinical expertise is required.
Identify bottlenecks and solve them independently.
Work directly with the founder and broader Steady team.
Help build the operational infrastructure required to deliver Steady’s upcoming institutional and B2B partnerships.
Who we’re looking for A background in Psychology is strongly preferred.
You may be a psychology graduate, postgraduate student, psychologist, counselling professional, psychology researcher or someone with substantial experience in mental-health/peer-support programs.
But your degree is not the main thing we’re hiring for.
We are looking for someone who is:
Highly responsible and dependable.
Extremely diligent with follow-through.
Comfortable taking ownership without constant supervision.
Strong at communication and people management.
Structured and process-oriented.
Comfortable recruiting and managing volunteers.
Able to understand psychological concepts deeply and translate them into practical systems.
Mature when dealing with sensitive subjects.
Willing to challenge existing systems and improve them.
Comfortable working in an early-stage startup where things are still being built.
Deeply aligned with what Steady is trying to create.
The person we’re looking for
If you need to be told what to do at every step, this probably isn’t the role for you.
If you see a broken system and immediately start thinking about how to fix it, we want to hear from you.
You will have significant ownership over one of the most important functions at Steady.
We need someone who can eventually look at the entire listener ecosystem and say:
“This is my function. I’ll make it work.”
Compensation & commitment
This is currently an unpaid early-stage leadership opportunity.
Steady is currently building its core team and moving toward investment and commercial partnerships. As the company progresses, we intend to develop formal compensated roles within the organisation.
For now, we are looking for someone who genuinely wants to build with us at this stage and can commit consistently to the responsibility this role requires.
This is not intended as a casual certificate/volunteering chance.
What you’ll get
Ownership of a core operational function at an early-stage startup.
Direct collaboration with the founder and leadership team.
Opportunity to build a listener and psychology program from the ground up.
Experience across people operations, psychology, training and startup execution.
Opportunity to shape Steady’s systems and standards at an early stage.
- Potential to grow into a larger leadership position as Steady scales.
Application
Please apply with your LinkedIn profile/CV and answer the following questions briefly:
- Why do you want to work with Steady specifically?
- Imagine you inherit a listener cohort where engagement has dropped significantly. What would you do during your first 30 days?
- How would you design a basic process to take a new listener from application → screening → training → approval → active listener?
We care more about how you think and how seriously you take ownership than having the perfect résumé.
Important
This role involves working around emotionally sensitive conversations. Candidates must demonstrate maturity, discretion, appropriate boundaries and an understanding that peer listening is not a replacement for professional mental-health care.
