Flight Dynamics and Controls Engineer:

Abyom is a full-stack Space & Defence startup building next-generation Reusable Rockets, advanced space infrastructure and dual-use technologies.

We are looking for a Flight Dynamics and Controls Engineer to design, model, and validate the control systems that keep our vehicles stable and flightworthy across every phase of their mission profile - from low-altitude hop tests to high-altitude, high agile-pressure flight.

KEY DELIVERABLES:

- Simulation frameworks that accurately capture the vehicle's dynamic response in 6 Degrees of Freedom (6-DOF).
- Test frameworks, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups and validation procedures for seamless integration of control algorithms.
- Comprehensive reports analyzing stability and system response under both nominal and off-nominal conditions.
- Control strategies for the various phases of the VTVL flight mission.
- Long-term architecture planning for flight control during high-altitude, high dynamic-pressure phases.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a related Engineering discipline, with exposure to flight dynamics, kinematics, or system modeling.
- Strong foundation in classical mechanics, rigid body motion, and vehicle dynamics.
- Good understanding of control systems design, feedback systems, and vehicle stability.




- Hands-on experience with simulation and modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or Python-based libraries, used for trajectory prediction, performance estimation, and tuning.
- Familiarity with integrating control system logic/algorithms with GNC hardware.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

- 3-6 years of experience in flight modeling for VTOL, UAV, Missiles or launch vehicle systems.
- Familiarity with 3-DOF and 6-DOF simulations, ground effect analysis, and drift estimation under wind loads.
- A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Experience in spacecraft operations, regression testing, and version control.
- Familiarity with Mission Analysis and GNC.
- Familiarity with Flight Dynamics design architecture.
- Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) test environments for pre-flight validation.
- Coordination experience with control, avionics, and propulsion teams to validate simulation outputs against real-world data.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND OUTCOMES:

- Assist in the design, development, and validation of flight control systems to ensure robust and stable autonomous flight through all phases of the mission profile.
- Support development of high-fidelity models for simulating a launch vehicle's response to intrinsic and extrinsic forces in real flight time; model and simulate flight performance of test vehicles starting from VTVL missions and evolve these models for high-altitude applications.
- Collaborate with the GNC team to incorporate dynamic models into control algorithms.
- Validate and iteratively refine control strategies based on feedback from flight tests and simulations; support closed-loop control tuning by providing stability envelopes, drift boundaries, and vehicle responsiveness under external disturbances.
- Evaluate dynamic risks for each phase of the mission; provide insight into the flightworthiness of current vehicle designs and their scaling potential for reusable spaceflight systems.
