Job Title: Field Service Technician – Battery & Energy Storage Systems
Department: Service / Operations
Reporting To: System Engineer - Battery
Role Summary
We are looking for a Field Service Technician to support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of Lithium-ion battery packs, ESS/BESS systems, UPS/inverters, and associated electrical equipment. The candidate will work closely with service engineers, battery engineers, BMS teams, and customers to ensure reliable and safe operation of deployed battery systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation & Commissioning:
- Support installation of lithium-ion battery packs, ESS units, BMS, UPS/inverters, cables, connectors, and protection devices.
- Perform basic electrical wiring and termination as per approved drawings.
- Assist in battery pack installation, commissioning, and functional testing.
- Verify polarity, voltage, communication connections, grounding, and protection devices.
- Support inverter–battery communication configuration.
- Record commissioning parameters and test results.
2.Troubleshooting & Service:
- Diagnose basic electrical, BMS, inverter, charging, and communication issues.
- Perform first-level troubleshooting of: o BMS alarms and faults o Cell over-voltage / under-voltage o Over-temperature / under-temperature o Over-current protection o Communication failures o Charging/discharging issues o Inverter/UPS faults o Contactor, fuse, MCB and wiring issues
- Use Multimeter, DC clamp meter, insulation tester, Peak CAN, CAN/RS485 tools and other service equipment.
- Escalate complex electrical, BMS, firmware, or software issues to senior engineers.
- Replace defective components/modules under approved service procedures.
3. Preventive Maintenance:
- Conduct scheduled inspection of deployed battery systems.
- Check: o Battery voltage o Cell voltage spread o Temperature o SOC/SOH o BMS status o Charging/discharging current o Cable and connector condition o Fuse/MCB/contactor condition o Earthing o Cooling/ventilation o Physical condition of the battery enclosure
- Carry out preventive maintenance according to service checklists.
4. Battery & BMS Support:
- Monitor battery pack parameters through BMS software/dashboard.
- Download and analyse basic BMS logs.
- Identify abnormal cell voltage, temperature,
current and SOC behavior.
- Support BMS configuration and parameter verification under engineering supervision.
- Assist with firmware updates and communication testing where authorized.
- Follow battery isolation and electrical safety procedures before service activities.
5. Customer & Field Support:
- Attend customer complaints and field service calls.
- Explain basic operating and maintenance procedures to customers.
- Provide first-level technical support over phone/video when required.
- Maintain professional communication with customers and site personnel.
- Travel to customer locations for installation, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
6. Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain service reports, installation reports and commissioning records.
- Record battery serial numbers, BMS IDs, inverter details and replaced components.
- Maintain fault history and corrective-action records.
- Update service tickets after every field visit.
- Maintain spare-parts and service-tool records.
- Escalate recurring failures to the Service Engineer / Engineering team.
Required Technical Skills
- Basic knowledge of DC electrical systems and lithium-ion batteries.
- Understanding of battery pack series/parallel configurations.
- Basic understanding of BMS operation and protection functions.
- Knowledge of voltage, current, power, energy and electrical measurements.
- Basic understanding of UPS, inverter and charger systems.
- Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Basic knowledge of CAN / RS485 / Modbus communication is preferred.
- Familiarity with Multimeter and DC clamp meter.
- Basic computer skills for service reports and BMS software.
- Ability to perform systematic electrical troubleshooting
Safety Responsibilities The technician must strictly follow battery and electrical safety procedures.
- Follow LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures before working on equipment.
- Verify DC voltage before touching or disconnecting conductors.
- Use appropriate PPE and insulated tools.
- Never bypass BMS protections, fuses, contactors or safety interlocks without authorization.
- Never short-circuit battery terminals.
- Follow battery handling, transportation and emergency procedures.
- Immediately report damaged, swollen, overheated, leaking or abnormal battery packs.
- Maintain safe working distance and follow site-specific electrical safety requirements.
- Do not perform unauthorized modifications to battery packs or BMS parameters.
Educational Qualification Preferred
- ITI – Electrical / Electronics / Electrician Diploma – Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics / Instrumentation
- Diploma/ITI candidates with relevant battery, UPS, inverter or EV experience may also be considered.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in any of the following areas is preferred: Lithium-ion battery service/EV battery packs/BMS/UPS/inverter service/Solar/ESS systems
- Electrical equipment maintenance
- Industrial electronics
- Field service Freshers with strong electrical fundamentals and hands-on skills may also be considered.

- Basic understanding of Excel and service-management software.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel.
