About BytebeamBytebeam builds the software and hardware infrastructure behind connected vehicles and devices. Our platform ingests high-volume telemetry, powers real-time diagnostics and analytics, manages devices and over-the-air workflows, and helps engineering and operations teams act on reliable field data.
Role OverviewWe are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the core data-pipeline systems behind Bytebeam. This group owns the gateway and broker path, importers and exporters, durable streams and processors, and the services that maintain sessions and device state. You will combine hands-on architectural judgment with people leadership to make this data plane dependable as device counts, traffic volume, and product use cases grow.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of systems engineers working across ingestion, streaming, processing, and stateful services.
- Own architecture and delivery for reliable, low-latency paths from connected devices to storage, analytics, and downstream applications.
- Define clear boundaries and contracts across gateways, brokers, importers, exporters, processors, sessions, and device-state services.
- Drive capacity planning, performance testing, observability, incident readiness, and post-incident improvements.
- Make pragmatic trade-offs across throughput, latency, durability, cost, and operational simplicity.
- Partner with infrastructure, algorithms, applications, firmware,
and customer-facing teams on end-to-end reliability.
- Establish strong engineering practices for design reviews, testing, rollout, and technical documentation.
Must-Have Skills
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including meaningful ownership of distributed or data-intensive production systems.
- Experience leading engineers as an Engineering Manager or senior technical lead with direct people responsibilities.
- Strong systems fundamentals: concurrency, networking, storage, backpressure, failure recovery, and performance analysis.
- Production experience with Rust, Go, C++, Java, or another systems-oriented language.
- Experience operating streaming, messaging, or event-processing systems at scale.
- Ability to reason from production evidence and communicate architecture and priorities clearly.
Good-to-Have
- Experience with MQTT, IoT or telematics systems, unreliable networks, or high-cardinality time-series data.
- Familiarity with Kafka/Pulsar-style systems, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, object storage, or Kubernetes.
- Experience moving critical services toward stronger durability, zero-data-loss goals, or predictable tail latency.
What Success Looks LikeWithin your first year, the pipeline teams have explicit ownership, dependable delivery rhythms, measurable reliability goals, and an architecture that can support Bytebeam's next stage of connected-vehicle growth without sacrificing developer velocity.
