About the College Access Program The College Access Program works with schools to help students make informed decisions about higher education, careers and college admissions. Our work reaches students and counsellors through programmes, digital resources, publications, social media and collaborations. Today, the College Access Program works across a network of more than 200 schools.
We are increasingly exploring new ways to create useful digital experiences for our audience. We are looking for someone who can help us turn those ideas into things people can actually see, use and interact with.
The Role
We are looking for a Digital Product & Design Intern who is comfortable moving between design, technology and execution. This is not a conventional graphic design internship.
You may be given an early idea, a rough visual direction or an initial prototype and asked to help take it further: thinking through the experience, developing the design, testing different approaches, building or prototyping parts of it and helping determine the most practical way to bring it to life digitally.
Projects may include webpages, interactive resources, visual tools, campaign experiences or completely new formats. You should be interested in what happens after the design is made - how it works, how it behaves on different devices, how it ultimately gets deployed and how to improve it.
What You’ll Work On
- Take early-stage concepts and help develop them into polished digital experiences.
- Create layouts, interfaces and visual systems for web-based resources and initiatives.
- Design and build pages and components within WordPress.
- Help translate designs into functional experiences.
- Prototype new ideas using design, AI, no-code and lightweight development tools.
- Explore different ways of implementing an idea and help identify an approach that is practical, usable and maintainable.
- Think through how experiences should work across desktop and mobile rather than simply adapting one layout to another.
- Develop visual concepts and assets for campaigns and social media when required.
- Improve existing digital experiences through better hierarchy, navigation, interaction, readability and usability.
- Test what you build, notice what is not working and iterate.
What We’re Looking For
We are ideally looking for someone recently graduated in a design or technical discipline.
Applicants from other backgrounds are equally welcome if they can demonstrate strong visual judgement and a good body of work.
Your portfolio, visual judgement, curiosity and ability to make ideas real is what matters.
You should also have:
- A strong eye for typography, composition, spacing and visual hierarchy.
- An understanding of how good design works across web, mobile and social formats.
- Some familiarity with WordPress.
- An active interest in AI-assisted design, prototyping and development tools.
- Comfort with tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar.
- A willingness to experiment with unfamiliar tools rather than being limited by what you already know.
- Enough technical curiosity to understand how digital experiences are built,
even if you are not primarily a developer.
- Good attention to detail.
- The ability to take feedback, improve work and keep refining an idea rather than stopping at the first acceptable version.
Basic HTML, CSS or JavaScript knowledge is practical but not required.
How We Think About AI and Design
We are interested in people who use AI intelligently. That does not mean generating something, accepting the first result and calling it finished. It means using new tools to explore more possibilities, prototype faster, test ideas and attempt things that might previously have taken longer to create, while still applying your own judgement.
You May Be a Good Fit If
- You are equally comfortable thinking about how something looks and how someone will actually use it.
- You pay attention to typography, spacing, interfaces, campaigns and visual systems in everyday life.
- You like experimenting with new tools without needing someone to ask you to.
- And when somebody describes an idea, your instinct is to start figuring out how to make it real.
