About the job

The Digital A2R Functional Expert is a senior hybrid Run-and-Build role responsible for both the stability and the evolution of the A2R, Tax and IFM application landscape. The role partners closely with global business stakeholders, Digital teams, and support functions to ensure reliable operations, optimise end-to-end processes, and deliver business value through change.

Beyond day-to-day support, the role actively designs, builds and delivers non-standard business change requests across A2R and IFM, working hand-in-hand with other Digital teams (Architecture, Integration, Data, Security, Build squads) and external partners. The expert brings deep functional and technical expertise, guides solution design, and safeguards adherence to architecture, integration and governance standards.

The role also contributes to Opella's Transformation roadmap on the horizon 2027–2030, supporting the move towards a single ERP strategy across the globe and driving transformation for A2R ERPs.

Key Responsibilities

Business Partnership & Governance

- Act as the trusted Digital counterpart for global A2R and IFM business stakeholders, operating within defined governance frameworks and proactively proposing improvements.
- Develop a deep understanding of A2R and IFM business processes and assess the current application landscape to identify strengths, weaknesses, integration gaps and opportunities.
- Provide consultative support on business-led technology initiatives, ensuring alignment with Digital and enterprise standards.
- Maintain a clear, prioritised view of the demand pipeline — distinguishing standard requests, non-standard change requests, and strategic initiatives — and align it with available Digital capacity.

Solution Design & Functional Expertise

- Provide functional and technical expertise on SAP and related A2R /Tax/ IFM solutions, ensuring high-quality, scalable and sustainable designs.
- Validate and approve solution designs delivered by internal teams and external partners, ensuring consistency, compliance, and end-to-end integration across the application landscape.
- Translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications,

fit/gap analyses and design documents.
- Continuously assess the support and delivery model for in-scope applications, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, performance and monitoring.

Build & Change Delivery (Non-Standard Change Requests)

- Own the end-to-end delivery of non-standard business change requests for A2R, Tax and IFM — from demand intake and feasibility assessment through design, build, testing, deployment and hypercare.
- Lead functional design and configuration for changes in SAP FI-GL, FI-AA, REFX, S/4HANA Finance, DRC, Tax, Period-End Closing, and IFM-related flows (intercompany, cross-border, legal entity and trade flows).
- Partner with development, integration and data teams to scope and deliver custom developments (RICEFW), interface changes, data model adjustments and reporting enhancements when standard solutions do not meet the need.
- Drive impact assessments across processes, systems and integrations before any non-standard change is approved or built, ensuring risks, dependencies and compliance implications are well understood.
- Define and execute the full testing strategy for changes — unit, functional, integration (SIT) and UAT — and coordinate cutover and post-go-live stabilisation.
- Ensure every change is delivered with the right level of documentation, governance approvals, and knowledge transfer to the Run / Support teams.

Run & Support

- Ensure business continuity and incident management in close collaboration with the ERP Support Team and Platform team, driving efficient ways of working.
- Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting and optimisation of systems within the A2R, Tax and IFM domains.
- Collaborate with support teams to ensure incidents are resolved within SLA and conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues.
- Partner with Product Owners and Business Owners to prioritise the enhancement backlog, reduce incident volume and improve user experience.
- Ensure systems are well documented and that documentation is kept up to date.

Project Delivery & Transformation

- Support ERP transformation projects by raising potential issues and risks, identifying stakeholders, validating functional and technical design, defining test cases, collaborating in SIT execution, following up UAT, supporting teams during cutover, and ensuring smooth Go-Live and Hypercare until transfer to BAU.
- Lead or support the end-to-end deployment of Business Value Projects (BVPs), from business case creation through implementation and KPI monitoring.
- Contribute to the Transformation roadmap 2027–2030, driving the move towards a single ERP strategy across the globe for A2R.
- Ensure seamless integration with enterprise systems and processes across the full project lifecycle.

Collaboration with Digital Teams

- Work closely with Architecture, Integration, Data, Security and Build squads to ensure that A2R, Tax and IFM applications follow best practices in design, integration patterns, security and data management.
- Co-design cross-domain solutions with adjacent Digital teams (e.g. Ci2C, Procurement, Supply Chain, Master Data) where A2R /Tax/ IFM flows interact with their landscapes.
- Act as a key contributor to enterprise architecture and integration standards, sharing reusable patterns and lessons learned from non-standard changes.
- Coordinate with external implementation partners and managed-service providers, ensuring quality, on-time delivery and adherence to internal standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- 8+ years of experience and robust functional knowledge of SAP modules relevant to A2R:
- SAP FI-GL
- SAP FI-AA
- SAP CLM (REFX for lease accounting)
- S/4HANA Finance (Universal Journal)
- SAP DRC for legal reporting
- Taxes
- Period-end closing
- Working knowledge of IFM (International Flow Management) — intercompany flows, cross-border / trade flows, legal-entity setup and related SAP configuration.
- Proven experience designing and delivering non-standard change requests (RICEFW developments, interface changes, custom reports, complex configuration) in a global SAP landscape.
- Proven experience in end-to-end process understanding within Account to Report.
- Ability to translate business requirements into scalable and sustainable functional designs.
- Experience working in a global environment with complex landscapes and cross-functional, multi-vendor teams.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to engage both business and technical audiences.
- Knowledge of the following modules is a plus: SAP AR and AP; SAP CO integration with FI-GL.

Preferred Qualifications

- Hands-on experience delivering changes on S/4HANA (greenfield or brownfield programmes).
- Experience with integration platforms (SAP CPI, APIs, middleware) and with designing end-to-end interface solutions.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools: Jira, Confluence.
- Hands-on experience with incident, problem, and change management processes (ITIL or equivalent).
- Exposure to data governance, master data concepts, and reporting tools (e.g. SAP Analytics, Power BI).
- Experience in regulated industries (pharma / healthcare / FMCG) and with SOX-relevant finance processes.

Soft skills

- Strong business acumen and the ability to challenge constructively.
- Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational execution.
- Comfortable owning delivery end-to-end — from idea to production — and accountable for outcomes, not just activities.
- Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across Digital, business and partner teams.
- Continuous-improvement mindset with a clear focus on delivering measurable business value.

Languages

- Fluent spoken and written English.
