We are hiring a cross-platform desktop app engineer to build and enhance desktop automation capabilities across Windows and macOS. The role focuses on developing reliable desktop control and automation features that interact with applications, files, folders, browsers, and system functions while minimizing disruption to the user's workflow.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and implement desktop automation capabilities across Windows and macOS.
- Prioritize native application and operating-system APIs wherever possible.
- Leverage Windows UI Automation, macOS Accessibility APIs, OS scripting, and related frameworks for desktop interaction.
- Build functionality to open and search files and folders, launch applications, manage windows, and control application focus.
- Develop text and input automation features including caret placement, text selection, insertion, clipboard operations, keyboard shortcuts, and keystrokes.
- Implement browser automation for navigation, data extraction, and form interactions when required.
- Build reusable automation APIs and action primitives consumable by higher-level application and AI workflows.
- Develop reliable automation workflows with timeouts, retries, state validation, error handling, and recovery mechanisms.
- Implement safety controls such as permissions, confirmations, allow/deny lists, dry-run capabilities, and audit logging.
- Collaborate with product and AI engineering teams to translate user intent into deterministic and verifiable desktop actions.
- Debug complex, stateful, and event-driven automation issues across diverse environments.




- Develop robust logging and observability practices to improve reliability and troubleshooting.

Required Skills & Experience

- 3–8 years of software engineering experience, with strong experience building desktop applications or automation systems.
- Proven experience developing and shipping software for both Windows and macOS.
- Strong understanding of Windows UI Automation and macOS Accessibility frameworks.
- Experience with OS-level APIs, desktop application integration, or system automation.
- Strong programming experience in one or more of C++, C#, .NET, Swift, Objective-C, Python, or TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Experience building reliable automation systems rather than proof-of-concept or demo applications.
- Strong understanding of application state, window focus, input handling, event-driven systems, and process management.
- Experience with browser automation tools such as Playwright, Puppeteer, or Selenium is an advantage.
- Strong debugging, logging, observability, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently in a contractor/consulting environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Win32, UIAutomation, Accessibility APIs, AXUIElement, AppleScript, CGEvent, or similar technologies.
- Experience building RPA, desktop automation, productivity tools, developer tools, or computer-control systems.
- Experience with Electron, Tauri, or other cross-platform desktop frameworks.
- Experience working with AI agents, voice-driven interfaces, workflow automation, or agentic systems.
- Experience designing permission models, safety controls, audit logging, and recovery mechanisms for automation systems.
