Job Summary The Consultant – SAP ABAP is responsible for delivering end-to-end SAP technical solutions, including design, development, and implementation. This role requires strong hands-on expertise in ABAP, the ability to handle complex requirements, and active collaboration with functional and business stakeholders. The consultant is expected to work independently, contribute to project success, and mentor junior team members.

This position is specifically for SAP OData and Gateway development. The consultant is expected to design, build and support the OData services that power SAP Fiori applications and external integrations, and to own troubleshooting across the user interface, Gateway and backend layers.

Key Skills

- 3-6 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience, with at least 1-2 years of hands-on OData and SAP Gateway development.
- Hands-on development of OData services using SAP Gateway (SEGW) - entity types, entity sets, associations, navigation properties, and service registration and activation.
- Implementing service logic in the data provider class for read, create, update, delete and query operations.
- Handling filter, sort and paging parameters so that data selection happens in the database and not in ABAP.
- Exposing CDS views as OData services for SAP Fiori applications.
- Error handling and returning meaningful messages to the Fiori user interface.




- Authorisation checks within the service and secure handling of create and update calls.
- Troubleshooting end to end across the Fiori user interface, Gateway and backend using the Gateway error log.
- Reports (ALV and classical), Data Dictionary objects, data migration programs, and enhancements using BAdIs, enhancement spots and user exits.
- Object-Oriented ABAP (Design Patterns) - classes, interfaces, inheritance and exception handling.
- Debugging, code optimisation and performance tuning.
- SAP development standards, unit testing, code review and transport management.
- Good understanding of code pushdown and how to write database-efficient ABAP on SAP HANA.
- ABAP Development Tools (Eclipse) along with SAP GUI - optional.

Good to Have

- Deep insert, function imports and batch processing.
- Hub versus embedded Gateway deployment.
- SAP Fiori / SAPUI5 awareness for end-to-end troubleshooting.
- OData V4 and the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP).
- SAP certification in ABAP or ABAP on HANA.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyse functional specifications, prepare technical designs for OData services, and raise gaps or clarifications before development starts.
- Agree the service structure and data model with the Fiori / UI5 developer before development starts.
- Develop, unit test and document OData services and supporting ABAP objects as per SAP development standards.
- Build services so that data is read efficiently and response times remain acceptable at production volumes.
- Work with functional consultants and business users to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Resolve SIT, UAT and post-go-live defects within agreed timelines, correctly identifying whether the issue lies in the user interface,



Gateway or backend.
- Participate in code reviews and ensure quality standards are met before transport release.
- Prepare technical documentation and support knowledge transfer to the support team.
- Support the full project lifecycle including implementation and support.

- Excellent oral and written communication; able to explain a technical position clearly and concisely.
- Understands business processes for the modules in scope and the touch points between them.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research and work through detail.
- Ability to interpret requirements and apply SAP best practices instead of replicating legacy design.
- Aptitude for working in a team, strong time management, and collaboration with all levels of staff.
- Ability to work independently on assigned deliverables and guide junior team members.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent.
- At least one full-cycle SAP implementation or a substantial support and enhancement engagement.
- Experience on SAP S/4HANA - preferred.
- Willingness to travel to client locations and work shifts aligned to client geography.
