OpenStack L2 Engineer

Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced OpenStack L2 Engineer with 4+ years of hands-on experience in administering and supporting production OpenStack private cloud environments.
The role involves second-line engineering ownership , including handling escalations from L1, performing detailed troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), managing platform-level configuration and changes, executing patching and upgrades, and automating repetitive operational activities.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise across OpenStack compute, networking, storage and identity , along with solid Linux, KVM, Ceph and Ansible skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and resolve escalated incidents from L1, performing detailed diagnosis and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) across compute, network, storage and identity services.
- Administer, troubleshoot and tune core OpenStack services including Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone and Heat .
- Troubleshoot complex OpenStack networking issues involving:
- Open vSwitch (OVS) / OVN
- Provider and tenant networks
- Routers and floating IPs
- Security groups
- VLAN and VXLAN
- Network namespaces
- Trace packet paths across the OpenStack networking stack to identify connectivity issues.
- Manage storage integration including Cinder backends, Ceph or equivalent enterprise storage , volume performance and capacity.
- Plan and execute patching, minor version upgrades and platform maintenance with documented rollback procedures.
- Manage OpenStack projects, quotas, flavours, aggregates, availability zones and image lifecycle.
- Perform capacity monitoring and forecasting and proactively identify utilization and infrastructure headroom risks.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks using Ansible, Bash and/or Python scripting .
- Develop and maintain operational runbooks, SOPs and troubleshooting documentation.
- Mentor L1 engineers and help improve first-line resolution rates.
- Participate in change management, problem management and post-incident reviews .
- Coordinate with OEMs and technology vendors for platform-level defects and escalations.
- Support a 24x7 production environment through rotational shifts .
Required Skills
- 4+ years of hands-on OpenStack administration in a production environment.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Nova – Compute
- Neutron – Networking
- Cinder – Block Storage
- Glance – Image Service
- Keystone – Identity
- Heat – Orchestration
- Deep understanding of OpenStack service architecture and inter-service dependencies.
- Robust OpenStack networking experience with OVS/OVN, VLAN, VXLAN, network namespaces, routers, floating IPs and security groups .
- Strong Linux administration experience, preferably RHEL/CentOS.
- Experience with Linux performance analysis, kernel parameters, systemd, storage and network configuration.
- Strong knowledge of KVM and libvirt troubleshooting .
- Hands-on experience with Ceph or comparable software-defined storage integrated with OpenStack.
- Automation experience using Ansible .
- Scripting experience in Bash and/or Python .
- Experience with production patching, upgrades, maintenance and change management .
- Strong RCA and problem-solving skills with the ability to document technical findings clearly.
Preferred Skills
- Red Hat OpenStack Platform (RHOSP) experience.
- RHOSP certification or RHCE .
- Experience with Red Hat OpenStack Platform Director / TripleO .
- Exposure to OpenShift or Kubernetes running alongside OpenStack.
- Experience in telecom, BFSI or large regulated data-centre environments .
- Experience with monitoring and log aggregation tools such as:
- Prometheus
- Grafana
- ELK Stack
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a strong OpenStack L2 / Infrastructure Engineer who can independently troubleshoot complex production issues, perform RCA, manage platform changes and upgrades, and automate operational processes. Candidates must be comfortable working onsite in Noida and in a 24x7 rotational shift environment .
