Over 1.500 companies trust Bookster in Romania, including Banca Transilvania, ING, Orange, IBM, Kaufland and E, with a community of 120.000+ readers. After more than a decade, we're now bringing Bookster to India, from the ground up.
Bookster is a Romanian-born platform built around the idea of making reading a habit people love. We use personalised recommendations, reviews, reading challenges and games, convenient office delivery and campaigns that bring people closer to the world of books.
We're looking for a leader to build Bookster India from the ground up: take a validated product and launch it in a new market. That means building revenue, partnerships and a team, while staying close to how the product needs to adapt locally. You'll have autonomy and direct access to the founding team in Romania. The decisions you make in the first two years will shape what Bookster India becomes.
The role is based in Chennai, where we'll open our first offices
What you'll be responsible for:
- Product localization. Own the translation of Bookster's product into the Indian market, from platform and app adaptations to delivery, service and every offline touchpoint;
- Commercial growth. Drive revenue through direct sales and partnerships;
- P&L; ownership. Own financial planning, budgeting and the path to profitability. Make the disciplined trade-offs an early-stage business demands;
- Brand & market presence. Grow Bookster's presence in India through PR, events,
the right channels and partnerships, earning recognition with HR, L&D; and business leadership;
- Team & culture. Recruit, lead and develop a robust local team while defining a culture that supports our mission and growth.
What we're looking for:
- 8–12 years of experience, with at least 3 in a P&L; or general management role;
- Proven ability to sell, build partnerships and grow revenue in B2B environments;
- Experience in HR tech, learning and development, SaaS, subscriptions or corporate services;
- Experience launching or scaling an early-stage business;
- Speed and a bias for action, comfortable shipping MVPs, running experiments and iterating your way to what works;
- A tech-savvy, curious mind, drawn to how great digital products work;
- A leader who builds culture, grows their team and keeps learning themselves;
- Someone whose love for books is contagious, sparking enthusiasm for reading in others.
- Nice to have: a background in the book industry — publishing, distribution or similar.
Compensation: We're starting with a budget of 6500 USD gross/month (B2B) for the initial period. This will grow alongside the business — we'll discuss both increases to the fixed monthly income and profit sharing, as results start coming in. Compensation is negotiable and depends on experience, with 6500 USD gross/month as the reference figure for this role.
