About The Role We are looking for an experienced Centre General Manager to take ownership of the centre's day-to-day operations, customer experience, community engagement, team performance and commercial performance. This is not a conventional store-management role. It is a highly hands-on centre leadership position that combines operations, customer interaction, community building and revenue performance. The ideal candidate should be approachable, energetic and comfortable spending substantial time on the floor, interacting with customers and understanding their behaviour while ensuring the centre runs efficiently.
Previous experience in climbing or fitness is not mandatory. We are particularly interested in strong operators from boutique fitness, premium or mid-to-high-tier retail, premium spas, wellness, hospitality, lifestyle, sports, recreation and other high-quality consumer-facing businesses. Relevant industry exposure is preferred because it helps candidates understand premium customer expectations and behaviour, but it is not a strict deal-breaker.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily centre operations, including opening, closing and operational readiness
- Manage staff scheduling, deployment and shift planning
- Lead daily team briefings and establish clear responsibilities
- Monitor attendance, performance and service standards
- Coach, train and develop team members
- Handle hiring, onboarding and performance management
- Ensure a consistently high-quality customer experience
- Monitor reception, customer flow, waiting times and first-time visitor experience
- Handle customer complaints and service recovery
- Monitor memberships, renewals, repeat visits and program enrolments
- Track daily and monthly revenue and commercial performance
- Monitor walk-ins, first-visit conversion, class utilisation and customer retention
- Identify opportunities to improve revenue and customer value
- Coordinate programs, classes, events and community activities
- Build strong relationships with customers and contribute to a sense of community around the centre
- Actively engage with customers on the floor and understand their needs, behaviour and feedback
- Maintain cleanliness, facility presentation and operational standards
- Coordinate maintenance, inventory, retail and other centre services
- Ensure safety procedures, SOPs, inspections and emergency protocols are followed
- Identify operational problems proactively and resolve them before they escalate
- Manage peak operating periods calmly and effectively
- Maintain daily operational reporting and performance tracking
Future Growth The role offers the opportunity to take increasing ownership of centre performance as the business grows. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong understanding of the business, its customer community, programs, operating systems and commercial performance, with the potential to take on broader operational responsibilities as the organisation expands.
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of professional experience
- At least 2–3 years of experience managing a physical, customer-facing operation
- Experience managing approximately 8–20+ employees
- Strong experience in team leadership, rostering, delegation and accountability
- Experience handling performance management, conflict resolution, hiring and onboarding
- Comfortable working with revenue and commercial targets
- Understanding of location-level business metrics such as revenue, footfall, conversion, retention and repeat visits
- Solid customer-service,
relationship-building and problem-solving skills
- Highly approachable and comfortable interacting with customers throughout the day
- Comfortable working on the floor rather than primarily from an office
- Strong communication and organisational skills, with English as the primary working language
- Kannada or knowledge of the local language is useful for handling local customer interactions, but is not mandatory
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and peak operating periods when required
- Willingness to learn the products, programs, operating procedures and safety requirements of the business
Preferred Qualifications Candidates with experience in the following industries are preferred, particularly where the role involved premium customer experience and relationship management:
