About the Role
Dalhousie Public School, New Chandigarh, is looking for a passionate, experienced and dedicated Athletics Coach to develop and lead the school's athletics programme.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of track and field events, sports conditioning and athlete development, along with the ability to train students across different age groups and skill levels. Knowledge or experience in additional sports activities will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Training
- Plan and conduct structured athletics training sessions for students across different age groups and ability levels.
- Train students in various track and field disciplines, including sprints, middle- and long-distance running, hurdles, relays, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus and other relevant events.
- Develop students' speed, strength, endurance, agility, flexibility, coordination and overall athletic ability.
- Teach correct techniques, movement patterns and event-specific skills.
- Develop individual training plans based on students' abilities, strengths and sporting goals.
- Conduct regular fitness, skill and performance assessments.
- Identify talented athletes and provide focused training to support their progression.
- Ensure appropriate warm-up, cool-down, stretching and injury-prevention practices.
Team Development & Competitions
- Conduct trials and assist in selecting students for school athletics teams.
- Prepare students for inter-school, district, state and national-level competitions,
wherever applicable.• Develop training plans based on upcoming competitions and individual events.
- Monitor and record student performance, timings,
distances and other relevant performance metrics.
- Analyse performance and provide constructive feedback to athletes.
- Accompany and supervise students during competitions, training camps and sporting trips as required.
- Support students in developing discipline, resilience, confidence and a competitive yet positive sporting attitude.
Student Development
- Encourage students to participate in athletics at both recreational and competitive levels.
- Motivate students to set realistic sporting goals and work consistently towards achieving them.
- Develop teamwork, leadership, discipline and sportsmanship.
- Create a safe, inclusive and encouraging training environment.
- Support students in maintaining a healthy balance between academics and sports.
Sports Facilities & Equipment
- Ensure safe and appropriate use of athletics tracks, fields, jumping areas, throwing areas and training equipment.
- Monitor the condition of athletics equipment and report maintenance or replacement requirements.
- Maintain appropriate records of sports equipment and training resources.
- Assist the Head of Sports/PT in planning requirements for athletics infrastructure and equipment.
School Activities
- Support the planning and conduct of Annual Sports Day, inter-house athletics competitions and school sports events.
- Organise athletics trials, fitness challenges, practice meets and internal competitions.
- Encourage participation in external athletics meets and tournaments.
- Assist with other sports activities conducted by the school, wherever required.
Desired Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of track and field events.
- Good understanding of sports conditioning, strength training and injury prevention.
- Excellent coaching, communication and student-management skills.
- Ability to train students across different age groups and performance levels.
- Strong leadership and motivational abilities.
- Ability to identify and develop sporting talent.
- Good organisational and planning skills.
- Knowledge or experience in additional sports activities will be an added advantage.
- Professional, disciplined and student-focused approach.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree/Diploma in Physical Education, Sports Science, Athletics Coaching or a related field will be preferred.
- Recognised athletics coaching certification will be an advantage.
- 3–5 years of relevant athletics coaching experience, preferably in a baording school,
sports academy or educational institution.
- Experience in preparing students for competitive athletics meets will be preferred.
- Candidates with a strong competitive athletics background and demonstrable coaching experience may also be considered.
