Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager, Research & Development, Consumables
Introduction:
The person will be responsible for driving innovation in foundry operations through the development of new alloys, materials, casting technologies, and advanced manufacturing processes to enhance product quality, performance, and cost efficiency. It leads research and development initiatives, process optimization, prototype development, and continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing productivity, reducing defects, and improving sustainability. Additionally, the role fosters technical excellence by building external partnerships, monitoring emerging technologies, and conducting training and knowledge-sharing programs across the organization.

You will work closely with internal & external stakeholders, such as Planning, Production, Technical Service, Procurement and vendors. The team members are sitting across the globe.
What you’ll do
- Develop new alloys, materials, and casting technologies to improve product performance, quality, and manufacturability.
- Lead research and development initiatives focused on innovative casting processes, Mold materials, and heat treatment techniques.
- Evaluate and implement alternative raw materials to enhance sustainability, reduce production costs, and improve resource efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to increase casting yield, minimize defects, and enhance mechanical and metallurgical properties.
- Optimize metallurgical properties of product based on customer feedback.
- Lead prototype development activities along with engineering team, including process design, manufacturing trials, testing, validation, and product commercialization.
- Ensure compliance with national and international standards such as ASTM, DIN, BIS, and other applicable material and quality requirements.
- Drive Industry 4.0 and digital transformation initiatives through the implementation of systems such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Foundry Monitoring Systems, and Quality Compass platforms.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, Design, Procurement, and Sales to support new product development and process improvement projects.
- Establish partnerships with universities, research institutions, technology providers, and industry experts to promote innovation and technology advancement.
- Conduct technical training programs and knowledge-sharing sessions with relevant employees.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive developments to identify opportunities for innovation and business growth.
- Prepare technical reports, project documentation, patents, and presentations related to R&D; activities and technology development projects.
- Ability to actively engage with Global interfaces at other Metso Manufacturing units for Benchmarking Product manufacturing processes.
- Ability to Participate in improvement projects like Kaizen, quality circle, HSE & Good to Great projects.
- Well conversant with ISO 9001 & ISO 14001.
Who you are
- Diploma or Degree in Metallurgy Engineering or Material Science.
- 8-10 years of experience in any metallurgy unit for R&D; development (steel and white cast iron foundry experience will be preferred)
- Deep understanding of Material Science, Casting Manufacturing Processes, Defect Analysis/Failure Analysis, Industry 4.0 concept.
- Good Witten & Verbal Communication, conflict resolution, and the ability to work under any foundry situation.
