Role Summary
Senior L3 technical ownership of enterprise AIX and Power infrastructure, including complex incident resolution, reliability, lifecycle management, security, HA/DR, performance, automation and technical leadership. The role is a senior escalation point, RCA lead, stakeholder communicator and mentor to L1/L2 engineers.
L3 Responsibilities
- Own complex AIX, Power Systems, PowerVM, VIOS, LPAR and HMC incidents from triage through recovery and permanent remediation.
- Lead major-incident bridges, stakeholder updates, structured RCA, corrective/preventive actions and problem management.
- Design and review resilient solutions aligned with availability, capacity, security and recovery objectives.
- Provide technical leadership for migrations, upgrades, platform refreshes and onboarding.
- Mentor L1/L2 administrators, review runbooks and lead knowledge transfer.
- Maintain build documents, procedures, topology diagrams and known-error records.
Security, Patching and Compliance
- Plan and execute AIX, VIOS, HMC, Power firmware and RHEL/Linux patching with testing, rollback and outage controls.
- Apply hardening, least privilege, access control, secure remote administration, encryption and vulnerability remediation.
- Maintain patch/vulnerability evidence, security exceptions,
audit support, privileged-access and logging controls
Must Have
- 8+ years of hands-on IBM AIX and production infrastructure support.
- Advanced AIX 6.x/7.x administration, troubleshooting, patching and lifecycle management.
- Strong IBM Power Systems, PowerVM, LPAR, VIOS and HMC experience.
- PowerHA or comparable HA/failover experience.
- Strong RHEL and multiple Linux-flavour experience.
- Proven L3 ownership of complex incidents, major incidents, problem management and RCA.
- SAN/NAS, multipathing, NFS, TCP/IP and DNS experience.
- KSH/Bash scripting and automation capability.
- Clear communication, documentation, stakeholder management and mentoring.
- Participation in on-call and maintenance activities.
Technical Responsibilities
- Administer AIX 6.x, 7.x and later: installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, filesystems, LVM, boot/recovery and device management.
- Manage IBM Power7+ systems, firmware coordination, hardware troubleshooting, PowerVM, LPAR, VIOS, virtual I/O, fibre channel, virtual SCSI and SEA.
- Operate HMC, partition profiles, managed systems, console access, alerts and capacity changes.
- Manage SAN/NAS, provisioning, multipathing, zoning/host mappings and storage performance.
- Troubleshoot TCP/IP, NFS, DNS, routing, MTU and network-related application symptoms.
- Administer PowerHA or equivalent clustering, failover/fallback, dependencies, split-brain prevention and recovery validation.
- Support backup, restore, DR testing, performance tuning and capacity forecasting.
- Automate with KSH, Bash, Ansible or equivalent tooling.
