Job Role: Core Fibre Design Engineer

Job Description:

1. Fibre Network Design Expertise

Strong experience in:

Core fibre routing design (long-haul, metro, backbone)

High-capacity fibre network design for transmission systems

Ability to:

Produce DDP/CDP, feasibility reports, and build-ready designs

Deep understanding of:

OSP networks (ducts, cables, joints, enclosures, patching)

2. Optical Transport Alignment

Understanding of:

DWDM/CWDM requirements driving fibre design

Ability to:

Align fibre routes with optical transmission constraints

Basic knowledge of:

Optical budgets, path feasibility, and resilience needs

3. Capacity & Resilience Planning

Fibre capacity planning:

Strand utilisation & route capacity

Strong focus on:

Redundancy, diversity, and failover routing

Ability to:

Identify single points of failure (SPOFs) and mitigate risks

4. Tools & Geospatial Systems

Hands-on experience with:

GIS tools (IQGeo, GCOMS, or equivalent)

Ability to:

Perform geospatial design, mapping, and route optimisation

Familiarity with:

Design documentation systems and workflow tools

5. Data & Records Management

Strong focus on:

Fibre inventory accuracy and records integrity

Ability to:

Validate and correct legacy data issues

Maintain:

Updated design records and as-built documentation

Field & Implementation Awareness

Understanding of:

On-ground fibre deployment & splicing constraints

Exposure to:

Site surveys, joint inspections, feasibility validation

Ability to:

Produce implementable designs aligned with field realities

7. Lifecycle & Remediation Planning

Experience in:

Joint swaps, fibre remediation & upgrade planning

Ability to:

Support site exit and network transformation programs

Exposure to:

Lifecycle-driven design improvements

8. Automation & Digital Capability

Exposure to:

Automated fibre design tools / planning workflows

Understanding of:

AI/GenAI-assisted design optimisation (preferred)

Ability to:

Improve design efficiency via process standardisation

9. Governance & Compliance

Knowledge of:

Telecom standards, NRSWA, safety & regulatory norms

Ability to:

Produce audit-ready design artefacts

Ensure:

Compliance with engineering and quality standards

10. Functional Competencies

Robust analytical & spatial problem-solving skills

Ability to:

Interpret requirements practical design solutions

Good stakeholder handling:

Planning, Transmission, Delivery teams
