About the Role

We are looking for a senior purchase qualified to own the Purchase function end to end for packaging materials and consumables. This is not an order-punching role. You will own the category, the vendor base, the cost, the forecast, the inventory calls and the team. You will be the single point of accountability for making sure that no batch, no dispatch and no season is ever held up for want of packaging material, and that we buy it at the right cost.

Key Responsibilities

1. End to end ownership of the packaging and consumables category
• Own the full procure-to-pay cycle for all packaging materials: HDPE and COEX bottles, jerry cans, caps and closures (including CRC), induction seals and wads, printed labels and wrap-around labels, laminates and flexible pouches, mono cartons, corrugated boxes, WPP and BOPP bags, tin containers, drums, measuring cups, shrink film, tapes and liners.
• Own procurement of plant and factory consumables, MRO items, packing consumables, safety and PPE items and lab consumables.
• Take full responsibility for cost, quality, quantity and on-time delivery of the category.

2. Forecasting and advance planning
• Convert the annual sales plan, monthly production plan and new product launch pipeline into a rolling packaging material requirement plan.
• Run the planning discipline: MRP, min-max levels, reorder levels, safety stock, MOQ and lead time norms, ABC and VED classification, seasonal build-up ahead of Kharif and Rabi.
• Pre-book capacity and material ahead of peak season and price cycles instead of reacting to shortages.
• Sit in the S&OP; conversation and flag material risk before it becomes a production stoppage.

3. Proactive inventory ownership and decision making
• Keep live visibility on packaging stock at every location and take the call on when to order, when to hold, when to expedite and when to stop.
• Drive down slow-moving,

obsolete and label-change-affected packaging stock, and prevent it from building up in the first place.
• Balance inventory carrying cost against stock-out risk and be able to defend that call with numbers.

4. Vendor development, cost and negotiation
• Build and develop a reliable, dual-sourced vendor base for every critical item, including alternate and backup vendors for peak season.
• Negotiate rate contracts, annual price agreements and payment terms; run RFQs, comparative statements and should-cost or cost-breakup based negotiation.
• Track polymer and input price movement (PP, HDPE, LDPE, kraft paper, tin plate, printing ink) and use it proactively for both cost reduction and cost protection.
• Deliver year-on-year cost savings, better payment terms and improved landed cost without compromising quality or compliance.
• Drive vendor rating, vendor audits and development of vendors on quality, capacity and delivery.

5. Quality, compliance and coordination
• Work with QC and Regulatory on packaging specifications, drop and leakage testing, compatibility, artwork and label changes, and statutory labelling and packaging requirements under the Insecticides Act, CIB&RC; norms, FCO and BIS specifications, including UN-certified packaging where applicable.
• Coordinate closely with Production, Stores, QC, Regulatory, Marketing (artwork) and Accounts so that every launch and every artwork revision lands on time.

6. Team, systems and reporting
• Lead, review and build the purchase team: set targets,

define review cadence, build SOPs and develop the next level.
• Institutionalise the function in the ERP: purchase requisition to PO to GRN discipline, item masters, approval matrix, vendor masters and clean documentation.
• Publish the monthly purchase MIS: spend analysis, savings delivered, price trend, vendor performance, inventory days, stock-out and near-miss report.

What We Are Looking For

• 10 to 18 years of purchase and procurement experience, with a strong core in packaging materials and consumables.
• Experience in agrochemical, pesticide, fertilizer, specialty chemical, FMCG or pharma manufacturing. Agrochemical or pesticide background will be a strong advantage because of the labelling and compliance sensitivity.
• Proven track record of owning a category independently: your own vendors, your own cost savings numbers, your own forecast.
• Strong hold on planning fundamentals: forecasting, MRP, safety stock, reorder level, lead time and MOQ management.
• Hands-on with ERP or SAP MM for purchase, and comfortable with Excel based analysis and MIS.
• Genuinely proactive. Someone who sees a shortage or a price movement three months early and acts, rather than escalating it after production has stopped.
• Ability to lead a team, hold people accountable and work cross-functionally with Production, QC, Regulatory and Finance.
• Graduate, preferably B.Tech, B.E. or B.Sc. MBA or PGDM in Operations, Supply Chain or Materials Management preferred.

Why This Role

• Complete ownership of a function, not a slot in someone else's function. You will own the category, the team and the numbers.
• Direct access to leadership, quick decisions and no long approval chains.
• A company growing fast enough that your planning quality directly shows up in dispatch, revenue and farmer service.
