Purpose - Why does this role exist?

The role is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and executing mechanical erection, installation, alignment, inspection, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning support activities for the Torpedo Line Desulfurization Process facilities in the Steel Melting Shop area of the upcoming ISP Rajayyapeta Greenfield Project. The position ensures that all mechanical activities are executed in compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, statutory norms, project schedule, and AM/NS India project procedures.

Key Result Areas (Key Performance Indicators)

1. Safe, timely, and quality execution of mechanical construction and erection activities for Torpedo Line Desulfurization Process facilities and related equipment.
2. Compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, quality standards, safety norms, statutory requirements, and AM/NS India project procedures.
3. Timely identification and resolution of site constraints, technical issues, interface issues, and resource gaps.
4. Proper supervision of equipment erection, alignment, piping works, testing, and pre-commissioning support.
5. Timely completion and handover of mechanical systems for commissioning and operational readiness.

Critical Tasks (Key Activities)

1. Supervise and execute mechanical erection and installation activities for Torpedo Line Desulfurization Process facilities and related equipment.
2. Compliance as per approved drawings, specifications, method statements, BOQ, and project schedule.
2. Monitor erection and installation of mechanical equipment including Torpedo Line Desulfurization Process facilities and related equipment, material handling equipment, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, cooling systems, pumps, blowers, compressors, ducts, valves, piping systems, and auxiliary equipment.
3. Ensure proper installation, alignment, levelling, grouting, bolting, fit-up, welding coordination, equipment positioning, and mechanical clearances as per technical requirements.
4. Coordinate mechanical erection activities with civil foundation readiness, structural erection, refractory works, E&I; installation, utility connections, and commissioning priorities.
5. Ensure mechanical works are executed as per approved construction sequence, project milestones, and safety requirements.
6. Ensure availability of approved drawings, materials, tools, tackles, lifting equipment, manpower, permits, and work fronts before starting activities.
7. Review mechanical drawings, BOQ, technical specifications, equipment manuals, erection procedures, vendor recommendations, and installation guidelines before execution.
8. Raise technical queries, RFIs, and site clarification requests wherever required.
9. Ensure mechanical equipment installation is aligned with foundation bolts, embedded plates, structural supports,



access platforms, maintenance requirements, operational clearances, and utility connections.
10.Participate in constructability reviews and provide site inputs for safe, practical, and productive execution.
11.Support preparation of redline markups, as-built drawings, mechanical completion documents, and final project dossiers.
12. Ensure all mechanical works are executed in compliance with approved Quality Assurance Plan, Inspection Test Plan, project specifications, applicable codes, standards, and AM/NS India quality requirements.

13.Coordinate with QA/QC teams for stage-wise inspection and clearance of equipment erection, alignment, welding, NDT, piping installation, hydrotesting, pneumatic testing, flushing, lubrication, grouting, and mechanical completion activities.
14.Verify equipment orientation, elevation, alignment, foundation bolt tightening, coupling alignment, pipe fit-up, welding quality, support installation, and installation tolerances.
15. Ensure use of approved equipment, valves, piping materials, fasteners, gaskets, welding consumables, lubricants, mechanical accessories, and erection tools.
16. Maintain quality records such as inspection reports, alignment reports, calibration certificates, NDT reports, hydrotest reports, material test certificates, equipment installation checklists, punch point records, and handover documents.
17. Identify non-conformities and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions in coordination with concerned teams.
18. Ensure timely closure of punch points, quality observations, inspection comments, and audit findings.
19. Support final mechanical completion and system handover documentation.
20. Ensure strict compliance with AM/NS India safety standards, project HSE procedures, statutory requirements, and site-specific safety guidelines.
21. Ensure all mechanical activities are carried out only after obtaining valid work permits and necessary safety clearances.
22. Monitor safe execution of heavy equipment erection, lifting, rigging, height work, welding, gas cutting, grinding, confined space work, pressure testing, rotating equipment work, and hot work activities.
23. Ensure lifting tools, tackles, cranes, hydras, chain pulley blocks, slings, D-shackles, spreader beams, and other lifting accessories are inspected and certified before use.
24. Ensure proper use of PPE, barricading, signage, illumination, access control, housekeeping, lifting plans, and secure approach to work locations.
25. Conduct toolbox talks and ensure contractor workforce follows safe work practices.
26. Report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately to the concerned authority.
27. Coordinate with the safety team for implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
28. Ensure environmental compliance related to scrap disposal, oil and grease handling, waste management, housekeeping, spillage prevention, and responsible material handling.
29. Coordinate with vendors and OEM representatives for equipment erection, installation, alignment, inspection, testing, commissioning support, defect rectification, and performance-related clarifications.

Ensure contractors submit method statements, work permits, inspection requests, progress reports, welding records, alignment reports, test reports, and commissioning documents.
31. Review contractor work methodology and ensure execution as per approved procedures and project requirements.
Ensure contractor compliance with AM/NS India site discipline, statutory requirements, safety procedures, and project protocols.
32. Support mechanical testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover activities for Torpedo Line Desulfurization Process facilities and related equipment.
33. Coordinate equipment inspection, no-load checks, alignment verification, lubrication checks, flushing, pressure testing, hydrotesting, pneumatic testing, functional checks, and trial run preparation.
34. Support commissioning readiness of Torpedo Line Desulfurization Process facilities and related equipment, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, cooling systems, pumps, valves, compressors, blowers, ducts, piping systems, and auxiliary equipment.
35. Ensure mechanical completion checklists are prepared and verified before system handover.
36. Support troubleshooting during testing, commissioning, trial operation, and stabilization stage.
37. Ensure closure of punch points before mechanical completion and commissioning handover

Education Qualification & Certifications

B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant engineering discipline from a recognized university or institute.

Relevant Experience

6 to 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical construction, erection, installation, alignment, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning support for large industrial projects. Experience in steel plant projects, SMS, hot metal handling, torpedo ladle systems, desulfurization facilities or large infrastructure projects will be preferred. Prior experience in greenfield project execution will be an added advantage.

Skills & Competencies

1. Strong knowledge of planning & coordination of mechanical erection and installation practices for Torpedo Line Desulfurization Process facilities and related equipment.
2. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GA drawings, equipment layout drawings, piping isometrics, P&IDs;, erection drawings, vendor drawings, BOQ, and technical specifications.
3. Knowledge of hot metal handling systems, torpedo ladle line interfaces, desulfurization process equipment, reagent handling systems, injection systems, lance systems, skimming equipment, hydraulic and lubrication systems, cooling systems, dust extraction systems, valves, piping, pumps, compressors, blowers, and auxiliary equipment.
4. Knowledge of static and rotating equipment installation, alignment, levelling, grouting, piping erection, support installation, and mechanical testing.
5. Knowledge of welding coordination, fit-up, NDT, hydrotesting, pneumatic testing, flushing, mechanical completion, and commissioning support requirements.
6. Familiarity with inspection test plans, quality documentation, test certificates, alignment reports, equipment checklists, pre-commissioning checklists, and commissioning documentation.
7. Understanding of lifting plans, rigging practices, heavy equipment handling, work at height safety, confined space safety, hot work safety, pressure testing safety, and permit-to-work systems.
8. Basic knowledge of applicable IS, ASME, ASTM, API, ISO, and relevant industrial project standards.
9. Working knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD viewer, ERP, project reporting tools, and project management systems.
