About the Role
Dalhousie Public School, New Chandigarh, is looking for a qualified, compassionate and responsible School Nurse to provide round-the-clock healthcare support to students in a boarding school environment.
The School
Nurse will be responsible for managing the school infirmary, attending to the day-to-day healthcare needs of boarders, responding to medical emergencies, maintaining health records and coordinating with parents, doctors and hospitals when required. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a residential school environment and understand the additional healthcare requirements of students living away from their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Student Healthcare & Infirmary Management
- Provide first aid and immediate medical assistance to students and staff in case of illness, injury or emergencies.
- Attend to the routine healthcare needs of boarding and day students.
- Assess students presenting with fever, injuries, pain, allergies, minor illnesses andother common health concerns.
- Monitor students who are unwell and determine whether they require rest,observation, medical consultation or hospital referral.
- Manage the day-to-day functioning of the school infirmary.
- Maintain adequate stocks of medicines, first-aid supplies and medical equipment.
- Regularly check medicines and medical supplies for availability and expiry dates.
- Ensure the infirmary is clean, hygienic, well-organised and adequately equipped.
Boarding & Residential Care
- Provide healthcare support to boarders beyond regular school hours, as per the school's duty and shift schedule.
- Monitor boarders staying in the infirmary and ensure appropriate care andobservation.
- Maintain proper records of students admitted to the infirmary, treatment provided and medication administered.
- Coordinate with Housemasters/Houseparents regarding the health and wellbeing ofboarders.
- Pay particular attention to students who are new to the boarding environment ormay require additional support.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding significant healthconcerns,
as directed by school policy.
- Accompany or coordinate the transfer of students to a hospital or medical facility when required.
Medication & Medical Records
- Administer medicines strictly in accordance with school policy and appropriateparental/medical authorisation.
- Maintain accurate records of all medication administered. Maintain confidential and up-to-date medical records for students.
- Maintain records of allergies, chronic conditions, medical history and other relevanthealth information.
- Ensure prescribed medicines brought by boarders are securely stored and administered appropriately.
Emergency Response
- Respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies on campus.
- Provide first aid and basic emergency care until further medical assistance is
- available.
- Coordinate with parents, doctors, hospitals and emergency services when escalation of care is required.
- Ensure emergency contact details and relevant medical information are readilyaccessible.
- Provide medical support during sports activities, school events, excursions, trips andother residential activities.
- Maintain appropriate emergency medical kits across relevant areas of the campus
Health, Hygiene & Wellbeing
- Conduct routine health observations and basic health screenings as required.
- Support periodic medical check-ups and coordinate with visiting doctors andhealthcare professionals.
- Assist in organising health camps, vaccination programmes and other student
- wellness initiatives.
- Promote awareness regarding personal hygiene, nutrition, hydration, sleep,menstrual health, first aid and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Monitor general health and hygiene standards within the boarding facilities and report concerns to the administration.
- Support the school in maintaining appropriate health and sanitation protocols.
Coordination & Administration
- Work closely with the Principal,
School Administration, Housemasters/Houseparents,Teachers, PE Department and Parents.
- Maintain proper documentation and submit health-related reports to the school administration as required.
- Participate in staff training and awareness programmes related to first aid, CPR, emergency response and student health.
- Maintain strict confidentiality while handling student medical information.
- Follow all school policies and protocols relating to student safeguarding, health and safety.

- Willingness to work according to boarding school schedules, including weekends/holidays and rotational or extended duty hours, as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- B.Sc. Nursing / GNM / ANM from a recognised institution.
- Valid registration with the relevant State Nursing Council, as applicable. 2–5 years of relevant nursing experience, preferably in a school, boarding school,hospital, paediatric or residential institutional setting.
- Prior experience working with children and adolescents will be preferred.
- Experience in handling medical emergencies and residential student care will be anadvantage.
- BLS / CPR / First Aid certification will be preferred.
