Position Summary This position is for the 2026 season. There are vacancies at multiple Middle Schools.
Season date run September 14, 2026 - October 27, 2026.
Practices are held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:50 - 5:20PM and Wednesday from 2:45 - 4:15PM. Meets are on either Tuesday or Thursday and coaches are required to be present for the entire meet.
Under direction, the role of the head coach is to lead the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to the middle school sports programs. Head coaches provide leadership and vision within the program, and organize and direct the athletic programs to meet the needs of the athletes, school and district.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.
- Knowledge and understanding of the basic and advanced aspects of the sport.
- Understanding of child growth, development and behavior.
- Knowledge of policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to interscholastic athletics and activities.
- Motivational techniques and strategies to improve individual and team performance.
- Ability to effectively organize, and supervise practices, scrimmages, and games.
- Ability to establish relationships and communicate effectively with both students and adults.
- Ability to differentiate practices for diverse populations.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
- Promotion of equity and diversity in all settings and understanding and commitment to anti-racists principles.

- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of our agency including ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and CIPA.
- Exceptional prioritization of tasks, timely completion of work assignments, ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.
- Present self and ESD4J in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives,
find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
- Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
- Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.
- Ability to lift, carry at least 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.
Minimum Qualifications Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualified as determined by Human Resources.
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent
Certification
- Possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid Certificate, including CPR training methods and procedures.
- Successful completion of Concussion Management and other training courses required by the OSAA.
- Successfully meet the District’s background check process.
- Preferred, but not required: Possession of a valid TSPC license.
- Valid Oregon Driver’s License
Experience
- Two years of experience as a high school interscholastic coach.
- Experience in, or understanding of sport to be coached. Must meet OSAA standards for coaching certificate. Knowledge of athletic conditioning and care/prevention of injuries.
- Must be a minimum of 22 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university in physical education, or closely related areas.
- Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
