Job Title: Linux System Administrator

Location : IIIT H,Gachibowli,Hyderabad

Type of Job : Full time – work from office mode

Reporting Manager : Associate Professor (Systems) - IIIT Hyderabad

Job Summary:

We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive Systems Administrator to join our energetic IT team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux-based systems, while also contributing to software deployment, security management, and issue resolution. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong foundation in Linux system administration and automation tools to grow within a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Install, configure, optimize, and troubleshoot Linux server environments.
- Deploy and manage both open-source and proprietary software applications.
- Quickly identify and resolve system-related operational issues.
- Monitor and maintain system security, performance, and reliability.
- Provide user support for access and resource-related issues.
- Collaborate with vendors to address hardware and software concerns.
- Document procedures, workflows, and best practices in internal knowledge bases.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Master’s degree in Mathematics, Science, Computer Science/Applications, ora Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, LPIC-1/LPIC-2, or RHCSA are highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of networking, file systems, system monitoring, backup/recovery processes, and virtualization.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.




- Experience with automation tools like Ansible or XCAT for provisioning and configuration management.
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration.

Key Roles: Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Ubuntu,RHEL)

Monitor server health, performance, and system availability.

Perform system upgrades, patch management, and kernel updates.

Manage user accounts, permissions, groups, and access control.

Configure and maintain services such as Apache, Nginx, SSH, FTP, DNS, DHCP, and NFS.

Troubleshoot operating system, network, and application issues.

Monitor logs and identify root causes of system problems.

Automate routine administrative tasks using Bash or shell scripts.

Manage storage, LVM, RAID, and file systems.

Ensure server security through hardening, firewall configuration, and vulnerability remediation.

Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and changes.

Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as KVM etc..,

Deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain open-source applications for Linux environments, ensuring high availability, optimal performance, security compliance, and seamless integration with infrastructure components. Perform root cause analysis (RCA), application tuning, version upgrades, patch management, and production issue resolution for mission-critical services.

Knowledge of Docker,gitlab,and RDBMS.

Knowledge of Tape Backups and restoration

Knowledge of HPC cluster and slurm job scheduler.

Knowledge of windows troubleshooting is added advantages.
