Legal Research Associate – Political & Election Affairs

Its team brings together experienced political consultants and professionals with diverse expertise across research, strategy, communications, policy, governance, and related fields.
Role Overview The Legal Research Associate will support political research, campaign strategy, policy, and public affairs initiatives through legal and regulatory research, political analysis, economic research, and policy development.The role will involve translating complex legal, political, economic, and policy developments into actionable insights, while contributing to campaign planning, manifesto development, election promises, and constituency-level research.
Key ResponsibilitiesLegal & Regulatory Research
- Research election laws, the Representation of the People Act, and the Model Code of Conduct.
- Monitor relevant judgments of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court.
- Track notifications, directions, and guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India.
- Assess legal and regulatory risks associated with campaign activities and communications.
- Review campaign speeches, advertisements, social media content, and other campaign material for compliance.
- Assist in preparing legal briefs, opinions, risk assessments, legal notices, and responses to complaints or regulatory queries.
- Support candidate nomination documentation, affidavits, and election expenditure compliance.
Political, Policy & Governance Research
- Conduct constituency-level research on political, governance, economic, and public policy issues.
- Analyse government policies, schemes, budgets, development indicators, and their impact on different sections of society.
- Track political developments, opposition activities, and emerging issues relevant to campaigns.
- Conduct research across sectors including agriculture, industry, employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and local governance.
Manifesto & Promise Development
- Support research and drafting for election manifestos and policy documents.
- Develop and evaluate election promises based on political, economic, legal, and implementation considerations.
- Assess the feasibility, financial implications, and regulatory requirements associated with proposed promises.
- Translate research findings into clear, evidence-based policy recommendations and campaign commitments.
Economic Research & Analysis
- Conduct research on state and constituency-level economic trends, budgets, government expenditure, employment, agriculture, industry, and welfare.
- Analyse economic data and policy interventions to identify key issues, opportunities, and challenges.
- Support the development of data-driven insights for campaign and policy strategy.
Campaign & Strategic Support
- Collaborate with research, strategy,
communications, and campaign teams on ongoing projects.
- Provide legal, political, policy, and economic inputs for campaign strategy and decision-making.
- Support rapid-turnaround research and analysis on emerging political and policy issues.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, International Relations, or a related discipline.
- Solid understanding of Indian constitutional and electoral law.
- Ability to conduct structured legal, political, policy, and economic research.
- Strong analytical and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret legislation, court judgments, government notifications, policy documents, and economic data.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with tight deadlines.
- Ability to convert complex information into concise, actionable insights.
- Prior experience in political consulting, public policy, legal research, election campaigns, journalism, or related fields will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Punjab and Haryana's political, legal, economic, and governance landscape will be preferred.
