Job Summary

Vortech is a fast-growing B2B SaaS company building enterprise-grade platforms for global partners. We are establishing our Hyderabad engineering hub and looking for a NodeJS Team Lead to be one of its founding members. You will own technical delivery end-to-end, collaborate as a peer with our engineering teams across hubs, and help define what great engineering looks like in Hyderabad.

You will sit at the intersection of hands-on engineering and team leadership — writing code, guiding juniors, and ensuring what gets shipped is reliable, scalable, and delivers real value to our enterprise clients.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the design and delivery of microservices and backend systems that form the core of Vortech's B2B platform.
- Make and defend architectural decisions — data models, API contracts, service boundaries — in collaboration with senior engineers across hubs.
- Set and enforce coding standards, PR review practices.
- Be the technical point of contact for the Hyderabad hub in cross-team discussions with other hubs.
- Contribute hands-on code — this is a lead role, not a manager role.
- Guide and mentor junior and mid-level engineers in the Hyderabad team; accelerate their growth through structured feedback and pairing.
- Participate in hiring — technical interviews, code assessments, and culture-fit evaluations for the growing Hyderabad team.
- Foster a team culture of ownership, peer accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Own sprint-level delivery commitments — plan, estimate, identify risks early, and unblock the team.
- Champion engineering quality: test coverage, CI/CD discipline,



observability, and zero-surprise production deployments.
- Track and improve DORA metrics (deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, MTTR) as a measure of team health.
- Collaborate with QA to embed quality upstream — not as a handoff, but as a shared responsibility.
- Translate technical constraints into business language clearly — proactively, not reactively.
- Identify technical debt that impacts product velocity or client experience and build a case for addressing it.

Required Qualifications

MUST HAVE

- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or any relevant field.
- 7+ years of backend engineering experience with Node.js, deep proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, Express.js / NestJS / Fastify, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively across time zones
- Ownership mindset — you don't wait to be told what needs doing.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) — schema design, query optimisation, indexing.
- Deep understanding of the Node.js event loop, asynchronous programming (async/await, Promises), stream management, and memory leak profiling/debugging.




- Package managers (npm, yarn, or pnpm), semantic versioning (semver), and dependency lockfile management.
- Structured logging libraries (e.g., Winston, Pino) and APM/tracing tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Datadog).
- Unit and integration testing frameworks for Node.js (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Chai, Supertest).

NICE TO HAVE

- Experience with event-driven architecture — Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar.
- Exposure to frontend technologies (ReactJS) — enough to collaborate meaningfully with full-stack & frontend engineers.
- Familiarity with enterprise SaaS integration patterns — webhooks, OAuth, multi-tenancy, API gateways.
- Experience working in a multi-hub global engineering team.
- Understanding of SaaS business metrics — churn, NPS, SLA — and how engineering decisions affect them.
- WebSocket workflow
- Comfortable with exploring new technologies.
- Have a strong understanding of software development lifecycles and contemporary transaction processing environments.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, AWS/GCP, and distributed caching (Redis).
