About us
9 Star Broking is a SEBI-registered stock broking firm building out an in-house product and engineering function. We're growing from a vendor-dependent setup — trading, mutual funds, and back-office all built and hosted by third parties — into a company with real engineering ownership over the products our clients use every day.
The role
We're hiring a Full Stack Engineer to help build the client-facing app and the backend layer behind it, working closely with our Senior/Lead Frontend Engineer, who owns overall architecture. You'll split your time across the frontend (React Native + Next.js) and backend (a Node.js/Python backend-for-frontend service that aggregates data from our trading, mutual fund, and reporting vendors) — this isn't a "frontend-only" or "backend-only" role, and the balance will shift depending on what the project needs at any given time.
This is an execution-focused IC role on a small, senior team — you won't be one of fifty engineers on a sprawling team, and what you ship will be in front of real clients quickly.
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of full stack engineering experience, with real production experience on both a frontend framework (React or React Native) and a backend service (Node.js or Python)
- Comfort working against a REST API you didn't design and can't change — reading vendor documentation, handling inconsistent or incomplete responses,
and building clean abstractions around messy upstream data
- Solid fundamentals: you can reason about state management, async data flow, and basic system design without needing everything spelled out
- A track record of shipping real features end-to-end, not just following a detailed spec — comfortable asking questions when something's ambiguous rather than guessing
- Genuine care about code quality and testing, especially for anything touching money or trades — this isn't a "move fast and skip tests" setting
Nice to have, not required
- Experience with React Native specifically, or Next.js
- Experience with WebSocket-based real-time data (live prices, chat, anything similarly live-updating)
- Prior fintech, trading platform, or e-commerce experience
- Familiarity with TypeScript end-to-end (frontend and backend)
Why this role
- Real ownership of features from day one, on a team small enough that your work is visible and matters, not lost in a big backlog
- You'll learn both sides of the stack on a genuinely interesting integration problem — three different vendors, three different API philosophies, one clean app on top
- Direct mentorship from a senior/lead engineer who's actively building out the team's practices, not a sink-or-swim environment
- Meaningful, immediate impact — this app replaces tools thousands of existing clients use every day to manage real money
