Role Description The Chess Coach will deliver structured, in-person coaching sessions to learners of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced players, at BKCC’s Bengaluru center. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning lessons, explaining key concepts and strategies, analyzing games, providing individualized feedback, and preparing students for tournaments and competitive play. The role also involves monitoring player progress, maintaining a positive and inclusive training environment, and collaborating with the BKCC team to refine curricula and organize chess events.
This is a full-time, in office position based in Bengaluru,
requiring regular weekday and occasional weekend availability aligned with class and tournament schedules.
Qualifications
- Strong chess proficiency, with a solid understanding of openings, middlegame strategy, and endgame techniques; prior competitive or tournament experience is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated coaching or teaching skills, including lesson planning, game analysis, and the ability to adapt instruction to different age groups and skill levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate learners, provide constructive feedback, and maintain a respectful, inclusive environment.
- Organizational and time-management abilities to manage class schedules, track learner progress, and support tournament preparation and logistics.
- Prior experience in chess academies, schools, or training centers is an advantage; chess coaching certifications or titles (e.g., FIDE, national federation) are a plus.
- Comfort working full time in an on-site setting in Bengaluru, with flexibility for sessions during evenings or weekends as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline preferred, or equivalent relevant experience in coaching, education, or professional chess.
