Role Title: Senior Quality Engineer II (QA Lead)
Position Summary:
The Quality Engineering Lead, RTP Web is responsible for leading and scaling quality engineering practices across Marriotts global digital web platforms, with a strong emphasis on adopting an AI-first mindset and integrating AI/ML technologies into QE strategy & solutions. This role combines people leadership, technical strategy, and delivery accountability to ensure high quality, reliable, and performant web and API experiences.
The roleis responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of Marriotts global digital web platforms by designing and implementing scalable, maintainable automated testing solutions.
The lead role partners closely with product, design, engineering, and platform leaders to define quality strategy, validate complex front end browser experiences and API integrations, guide automation investments, and embed a shift left quality mindset across teams.
This is a hands on lead role requiring strong technical depth, coaching ability, and ownership of quality outcomes across the team with a modern test automation mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Quality Engineers and SDETs, providing technical guidance, career development, and regular feedback.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable automation frameworks for web UI and API testing using modern tools and best practices.
- Develop and maintain automated browser tests for large scale web and mobile web applications,
including cross browser and cross device coverage.
- Create, execute, and maintain automated REST and GraphQL API test suites, including functional, contract, and schema validation.
- Foster an AI-first culture within the team and leverage GenAI-based tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to execute technical tasks, including component development, QA automation, and workflow optimization.
- Integrate UI and API test suites into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and high quality releases.
- Partner with developers, product owners, and QE leads to ensure testability, clear acceptance criteria, and comprehensive quality coverage.
- Perform root cause analysis on defects and collaborate with engineering teams to validate fixes.
- Implement regression, visual validation, and accessibility testing to reduce manual testing effort and improve coverage.
- Drive shift left quality engineering practices and provide technical guidance and mentoring to other QE and SDET team members.
- Improve automation reporting, test data management, and setting readiness.
- Own automation quality for one or more major web domains or platforms.
- Contribute to Quality Engineering Center of Excellence (COE) standards, reusable frameworks, and shared testing accelerators.
- Provide hands on technical leadership by guiding the design, development, and evolution of scalable web UI and API automation frameworks, while reviewing and mentoring team contributions.
- Serve as the primary quality engineering lead for assigned web team, working closely with product owners and engineering managers.
- Define and track quality metrics (automation coverage, defect trends, release readiness, pipeline health).
- Use data to identify systemic issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of experience in software quality engineering with a strong focus on web and API automation.
- Exposure to agentic GenAI development tools like Claude, ChatGPT, or other tools.
- Deep understanding of integrating AI models into cloud-native architectures and microservices, enabling virtualization and intelligent automation.
- Strong understanding of modern quality engineering practices,
automation strategy and experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Harness, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to balance hands on technical leadership with people management responsibilities.
- Hands on experience with modern test automation frameworks and tools, including:
- Selenium WebDriver with Java and TestNG or JUnit
- Playwright with JavaScript or TypeScript
- Browser Stack or similar cloud based cross browser testing platforms
- REST API testing tools such as Postman, REST Assured, ReadyAPI or equivalent
- GraphQL API testing, including queries, mutations, and schema validation
- Strong programming skills in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python
- Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, DOM, browser behavior, and developer tools.
- Proven ability to design and execute complex testing strategies beyond basic functional testing.
- Strong debugging, problem solving, and analytical skills.
- Experience working in fast paced Agile/Scrum environments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with API mocking and service virtualization tools (e.g., WireMock, MSW).
- Experience with containerized or distributed test execution environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience testing microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience with AI assisted development or testing tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve automation development productivity.
- Experience testing AI enabled web or API based applications is a plus.
- Knowledge of Marriott digital platforms or prior experience in hospitality, travel, or e commerce domains is a plus.
- Familiarity with organizational level quality metrics, governance, and continuous improvement programs.
- Experience influencing senior engineering and product leadership on quality strategy.
- Prior experience operating within a Quality Engineering COE or platform based QE model.
