About the Opportunity

BITS Design School, Mumbai, invites full-time applications from passionate and accomplished academicians and design practitioners to join our growing faculty team. We are currently looking for people across design verticals/ pathways.

As a faculty member, you will design and deliver undergraduate courses, mentor students, contribute to research and creative practice, and help build a design program that is globally competitive, cutting-edge, and industry relevant.

Work Location: BITS Design School, Kalyan, Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Qualifications & Experience
A. Professor/ Professor of Practice and HoD

- Ph.D. in Design or related field (preferred) and Master's in Design.

Experience:

- 7+ years of academic/ industry experience in case of a PhD, OR
- 12+ years of academic/ industry experience in case of a Master’s degree, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.

B. Associate Professor

- Ph.D. in Design or related field (preferred) and Master's in Design.

Experience:

- 5+ years of academic/ industry experience in case of a PhD, OR
- 7-10 years of academic/ industry experience in case of a Master’s degree

C. Assistant Professor

- Master's in Design; PhD preferred

Experience:

- 5+ years of academic/ industry experience

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching & Curriculum Development

- Design, develop, and deliver lectures, seminars, and studio-based courses in your area of specialization, across programs.




- Build and continuously update curricula, course materials, syllabi, and assignments aligned with emerging industry trends, tools, and technologies.
- Integrate innovative pedagogical strategies to enhance student learning outcomes.
- Mentor and advise students academically and professionally, including guiding thesis, capstone, and studio projects.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Conduct field visits and collaborate with external organizations to create experiential learning opportunities.

1. Research & Scholarship

- Conduct original research in design innovation, sustainable practices, emerging technologies, and future-oriented design methods.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and design publications, and present at national and international conferences.
- Collaborate with industry partners, academic researchers, and interdisciplinary teams on joint research initiatives, and pursue external funding and grants.

1. Institution Building & Leadership

- Engage in departmental and university committees, contributing to the governance and strategic direction of BITS Design School.
- Represent BITS Design School at academic forums, conferences, and public platforms, building thought leadership and professional networks.




- Support accreditation processes and help align programs with national and international educational standards.
- For the Professor & HoD: lead the development of the vertical, including curriculum strategy, team building, and industry partnerships, and represent the vertical across institutional and external platforms.

1. Industry Partnerships & Placements

- Build and maintain relationships with design studios, corporate partners, and industry organizations.
- Align academic training with market expectations and facilitate internships and job placements for students.
- Leverage alumni networks for placement opportunities and industry insights.

1. Professional Development

- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and developments in design practice.
- Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the broader academic community.
