Role Type: Full-time | High-responsibility political communications role
Role Overview
We are looking for a highly driven and politically aware Head of Social Media & Digital Communications to take end-to-end responsibility for the Minister's digital presence and social media operations.
This is not simply a content-posting role.
The person will be responsible for building and running the complete digital communications operation — strategy, content, research, creative production, platform management, rapid response, analytics, team coordination and reputation management.
The objective is to build a credible, responsive and high-impact digital presence that communicates the Minister's work, government initiatives, constituency engagement, political positions and public-service priorities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Digital Strategy & Positioning
- Develop and execute the overall social media and digital communications strategy.
- Build a distinctive and consistent public identity for the Minister.
- Create separate communication strategies around:
- Ministerial work
- Government programmes and achievements
- Minor Irrigation
- Science & Technology
- Constituency and grassroots work
- Karnataka development issues
- Youth and women
- Public service
- Political and Congress communication
- National and state-level issues
- Maintain the right balance between governance communication, political communication and personal/public engagement.
2. Complete Social Media Management Take ownership of the Minister's presence across:
- X / Twitter
- Instagram
- Facebook
- YouTube
- LinkedIn
- WhatsApp communication channels
- Other relevant digital platforms
Responsible for daily publishing, scheduling, platform optimisation and maintaining consistency across all channels. 3. Content Planning
Develop a structured
- Daily content plan
- Weekly content calendar
- Monthly communications calendar
- Campaign calendar
- Important dates and occasions calendar
- Departmental communication calendar
- Constituency communication calendar
Ensure that important opportunities for communication are never missed. 4. Content Creation & Editorial Control
Supervise creation of
- Tweets and threads
- Instagram/Facebook posts
- Reels and short-form videos
- Speeches converted into social content
- Political statements
- Government achievement posts
- Infographics
- Carousels
- Posters
- Press-related content
- Constituency stories
- Long-form videos
- YouTube content
- LinkedIn posts
- Kannada and English content
Ensure every piece of communication is factually accurate, politically appropriate and consistent with the Minister's voice. 5. Ministerial & Departmental Communication
Build a strong communication system around the Minister's portfolios.
Coordinate with departments and officers to identify:
- New initiatives
- Project launches
- Field visits
- Reviews and meetings
- Government decisions
- Important statistics
- Success stories
- Beneficiary stories
- Before/after developments
- Milestones and achievements
Convert administrative work into communication that ordinary citizens can easily understand. 6. Political Communication & Rapid Response
Continuously monitor
- Karnataka politics
- National politics
- Congress communication
- Opposition statements
- Breaking news
- Trending political conversations
- Issues affecting Karnataka
- Issues affecting the Minister's departments and constituency
Identify issues on which the Minister should communicate. Prepare rapid-response drafts, talking points and factual rebuttals when required.
Speed must never come at the cost of factual accuracy.
7. Research & Fact-Checking
Establish a robust research process for every important political or policy communication.
The team should be able to quickly answer:
- What happened?
- What are the verified facts?
- What are the relevant numbers?
- What has the Government said?
- What has the opposition said?
- What is the historical context?
- What is Congress's position?
- What should the Minister's position be?
- What claims should be avoided because they cannot be verified?
Maintain a searchable digital knowledge repository of important facts, statistics, speeches, achievements and previous statements. 8. Creative & Video Operations
Manage photographers, videographers, editors and graphic designers.
Ensure coverage of
- Ministerial programmes
- Departmental meetings
- Field inspections
- Constituency visits
- Political programmes
- Public interactions
- Speeches
- Press conferences
Develop a system for real-time transfer, selection, editing and publishing of photographs and videos from events. The objective should be to reduce the time between an event happening and high-quality content being published.
9. Build the Minister's Digital Voice
Understand how the Minister thinks and communicates.
Develop a recognisable voice that is:
Credible • Development-oriented • Progressive • Accessible • Politically clear • Fact-based • Karnataka-focused
Content should not sound generic or mechanically generated.
10. Team Management
Lead and coordinate the entire social media/communications team, including:
- Content writers
- Kannada content resources
- English content/research resources
- Graphic designers
- Video editors
- Photographer
- Videographer
- Media/digital coordinator
- Constituency-level content resources
Assign responsibilities, establish deadlines and ensure accountability. The Head of Digital should function as the single point of responsibility for the entire operation.
11. Analytics & Performance
Track performance across platforms, including:
- Reach
- Engagement
- Video views
- Follower growth
- Shares
- Saves
- Audience demographics
- Best-performing subjects
- Best-performing formats
- Sentiment
- Share of voice
Submit a concise weekly performance report explaining: What worked → What didn't → Why → What should change next week
Provide a deeper monthly review of digital performance and positioning.
12. Reputation & Crisis Management
Monitor emerging controversies and misinformation.
Immediately flag
- Negative narratives
- Misleading information
- Viral criticism
- Department-related controversies
- Political attacks
- Old content resurfacing
- Potential reputational risks
Develop appropriate responses in coordination with the Minister's office.
Sensitive political communication must follow a defined approval process before publication.
13. Innovation
Continuously experiment with

Benchmark successful communication by political leaders, governments and public institutions in India and internationally. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate should have:
- 5–10 years of relevant experience
- Experience managing political, government, public-policy, media or high-profile public accounts
- Strong understanding of Karnataka politics
- Strong understanding of Indian national politics
- Excellent political judgement
- Strong command of English
- Strong understanding of Kannada communication
- Excellent writing and editorial judgement
- Ability to understand government policy and data
- Strong knowledge of X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn
- Understanding of video-first social media
- Experience managing creative and content teams
- Ability to operate in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment
- Strong research and fact-checking discipline
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Experience working with elected representatives, political parties, government departments, political consulting organisations, newsrooms or major public-policy organisations will be preferred. What We Are NOT Looking For
This role is not for someone whose experience is limited to:

- Making Canva creatives
- Increasing followers
- Running generic brand accounts
- Copying trending formats
- Producing content without understanding politics or policy
We need someone who understands politics + governance + communication + digital media + operations.

Working Style
This is not a conventional 9-to-5 communications position.
Politics and government operate in real time. The candidate should therefore be comfortable with:

At the same time, the objective is to build systems and processes rather than permanently operating in crisis mode.
Reporting
Reports directly to: Minister / Minister's Office The Head of Social Media & Digital Communications will have operational authority over the digital communications team and will be accountable for the overall quality and performance of the Minister's digital presence.
