Structural Engineering Lead
Job Summary
Bachelors/Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a reputed institute with more than 16 years of experience in estimation, engineering coordination, front-end and detailed design of structures and foundations for large industrial projects, preferably related to Oil & Gas and Petrochemical plants.
The candidate should have worked in a reputed engineering office or consultancy performing relevant work and should have exposure to Indian, US, European and other international codes, standards and local practices.
The candidate should have experience with 3D modelling and viewing tools such as S3D, Tekla, Navisworks and SPR, and should be proficient in industry-standard Structural and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP, ETABS, MIDAS and ANSYS.
Major Responsibilities
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports and proposals.
- Develop design criteria, specifications, budgets and schedules for projects of varying complexity.
- Perform finite element modelling and structural analysis of various steel and concrete structures.
- Review bid analyses and make recommendations.
- Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
- Review and check the work of junior team members.
- Provide technical guidance and inputs for the performance evaluation of junior team members.
- Plan, conduct and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work.
- Coordinate engineering activities with other disciplines, clients, suppliers and contractors.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Master’s Degree in a relevant subject will be preferred.
- 16–20 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in EPC and/or large FEED projects.
- Experience in leading a team of engineers and designers.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Broad understanding of major design engineering deliverables.
- Strong understanding of conventional engineering practices, including the ability to resolve:
- Conflicting design requirements.
- Unsuitability of conventional materials.
- Complex coordination requirements.
- Proficiency in standard application programs and appropriate CAD and CAE tools.
- Solid knowledge of structural design and engineering practices.
- Understanding of engineering planning and control methods, including computerized methods.
- Understanding of relevant industry and regulatory codes, standards and design criteria.
- Ability to coordinate engineering efforts between structural and other engineering disciplines.
- Understanding of the roles and interfaces of disciplines such as:
- Plant Layout & Piping
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Architectural
- Geotechnical
- Construction
- Ability to plan, assign, guide and monitor the work of team members.
- Capable of ensuring the quality and accuracy of engineering designs and associated deliverables.
- Strong technical coordination and team leadership skills.
