– OT Technician / OT Assistant Department: Operation Theatre (OT) Designation: OT Technician / OT Assistant Employment Type: Full-Time Experience: 0–3 Years Location: Purple Heron Hospital Job SummaryPurple Heron Hospital is looking for a skilled and responsible OT Technician / OT Assistant to support the surgical, nursing, and anaesthesia teams in the smooth and safe functioning of the Operation Theatre. The candidate should have practical knowledge of Scrub Duties, Anaesthesia Assistance, OT Preparation, Surgical Instruments, Sterile Techniques, Infection Control, and Post-Operative OT Management . Key ResponsibilitiesOT & Scrub ResponsibilitiesPrepare the Operation Theatre before scheduled surgeries.

Arrange and check all required surgical instruments, sutures, implants, consumables, and other OT supplies. Assist the surgeon and surgical team during procedures as a Scrub Technician . Provide required surgical instruments and materials to the surgeon during surgery.

Maintain strict sterile and aseptic techniques inside the OT. Perform proper counting of instruments, needles, gauze, and other surgical items before, during, and after surgery. Anticipate the surgeon's requirements and ensure timely availability of instruments and consumables.

Handle surgical instruments carefully and ensure they are properly segregated after surgery. Assist with specimen handling, labeling, and transfer as per hospital protocol. Ensure OT equipment and instruments are ready before every procedure.

Maintain proper OT checklists, records, and documentation.

Anaesthesia

AssistanceAssist the Anaesthetist in preparing the anaesthesia workstation before surgery. Check availability and functioning of the anaesthesia machine, oxygen supply, suction,



breathing circuits, and related equipment. Arrange airway equipment such as masks, laryngoscopes, tubes, and other required devices.

Keep required anaesthesia consumables and equipment ready as instructed by the Anaesthetist. Assist the Anaesthetist during procedures as directed. Ensure patient monitoring equipment is available and functioning.

Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and supplies. Clean, disinfect, and properly store reusable anaesthesia equipment. Maintain adequate stock of anaesthesia-related consumables and report shortages promptly.

OT & Patient SafetyAssist in safe positioning and transfer of patients as directed by the clinical team. Follow strict infection-control and patient-safety protocols. Follow biomedical waste segregation and disposal procedures.

Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the OT after every procedure. Coordinate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, CSSD, and other hospital departments. Immediately report damaged equipment, missing instruments, shortages, or safety concerns to the concerned supervisor.

Be prepared to assist during emergency and critical surgical procedures.

Required

SkillsGood knowledge of OT procedures and surgical instruments . Practical knowledge of Scrub duties and sterile techniques . Basic knowledge of Anaesthesia equipment and assistance .



Understanding of infection-control practices. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work under pressure during emergency and complex surgeries. Robust attention to detail, discipline, and responsibility. Willingness to work in rotational shifts, night shifts, and emergency duties.

Educational

QualificationDiploma/B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) or equivalent qualification. Candidates with relevant OT Technician / Anaesthesia Technician / OT Assistant training may also be considered.

Experience 0–3 years of relevant hospital/OT experience. Freshers with relevant qualifications and practical training may also be considered.

Preferred

CandidatePrevious experience in a hospital Operation Theatre will be preferred. Knowledge of surgical instruments and different types of surgeries will be an advantage. Basic computer knowledge for OT documentation. Professional, disciplined, punctual, and willing to learn. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team.
