Position Title: Optical Design Engineer
Experience Level: Mid-Level (3–6 Years)
Department: Optical Engineering / Hardware R&D;
Role Summary
Our client is looking for a creative and hands-on Mid-Level Optical Design Engineer to drive the end-to-end design, simulation, and physical integration of precision optical systems. In this role, you will bridge sequential optical design (lens layout, stray light analysis, tolerance modeling) with practical mechanical packaging. You will collaborate directly with cross-functional physics, electronics, and manufacturing teams to turn optical concepts into robust, manufacturable hardware modules.
Key Responsibilities
- Optical Simulation & Modeling: Perform sequential and non-sequential optical ray tracing, aberration correction, and stray light/ghost image analysis using software such as Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, or FRED.
- Optomechanical CAD Integration: Design high-precision mechanical housings, lens barrels, mountings, and optical alignment fixtures using 3D CAD platforms (SolidWorks, Creo, or Inventor).
- Tolermix & Yield Analysis: Conduct Monte Carlo tolerance analyses to establish realistic manufacturing and assembly specifications (ISO 10110 standards) for optics fabrication.
- Prototyping & Lab Verification: Set up optical test benches, run interferometric and MTF testing, calibrate beam-shaping optics, and validate prototype optical assemblies.
- DFM / DFA Compliance:
Collaborate with optical vendors and precision machining partners to ensure designs meet Design for Manufacturability and Assembly standards.
- Thermal & Environmental Analysis: Evaluate thermal expansion (STOP analysis) and structural rigidity to ensure optical alignment stability across environmental operational ranges.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Optics & Photonics, Mechanical Engineering (with optics specialization), or Applied Physics.
- Experience: 3–6 years of industry experience in optical component design, optical packaging, or optomechanical engineering.
- Core Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency in optical design tools (Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, or LightTools) and 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Creo).
- Deep understanding of geometric optics, diffraction, polarization, anti-reflective coatings, and laser beam shaping.
- Experience applying GD&T; (ASME Y14.5) to precision optics, micro-positioners, and optical housings.
- Practical experience with lab instrumentation (interferometers, beam profilers, spectrophotometers, power meters).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing precision optics for LiDAR, AR/VR displays, optical sensors, fiber optic modules, or camera lens systems.
- Familiarity with optomechanical adhesives, active alignment algorithms, or flexure mechanism design.
- Basic scripting skills (Python, MATLAB, or Zemax ZPL) to automate optical design workflows and data processing.
Pay: ₹1,000,000.00 - ₹1,500,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
