Job Purpose The OCM Diagnostician is responsible for reviewing, interpreting, and diagnosing Oil Condition Monitoring (OCM) test results for lubricants, hydraulic oils, transformer oils, coolants, and other industrial fluids. The role involves identifying equipment health trends, recommending corrective actions, preparing diagnostic reports, and providing technical support to customers and internal stakeholders to ensure asset reliability and preventive maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Diagnostic Analysis
- Review and interpret laboratory test results related to Oil Condition Monitoring.
- Analyze lubricant condition, contamination levels, wear metal trends, and equipment health indicators.
- Identify abnormal conditions and potential equipment failures based on analytical data.
- Perform trend analysis and provide condition-based maintenance recommendations.
2. Technical Reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely diagnostic reports with clear recommendations.
- Validate test results before issuing reports to customers.
- Ensure reports comply with customer requirements and internal quality standards.
- Communicate critical findings to customers and management on priority.
3. Customer Support
- Provide technical guidance to customers regarding oil analysis results and corrective actions.
- Participate in technical discussions, review meetings, and customer presentations.
- Address customer queries related to diagnostics, testing methodologies, and report interpretation.
- Support root cause investigations of equipment failures and lubricant-related issues.
4. Data Management and Trending
- Maintain and monitor equipment history and trend data.
- Utilize diagnostic software and databases to generate reliability insights.
- Review historical data to identify recurring equipment issues and maintenance opportunities.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of diagnostic records and databases.
5. Methodology and Technical Development
- Maintain knowledge of ASTM, IP, IS, and other relevant industry standards.
- Review and implement updates to diagnostic procedures and test methodologies.
- Support development and enhancement of diagnostic rules, limits, and alarm criteria.
- Assist in validation and implementation of current OCM technologies and analytical techniques.
6. Quality and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with ISO 17025, laboratory quality systems, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of customer information and laboratory data.
- Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and quality improvement activities.
- Ensure proper documentation and record retention as per quality requirements.
7. Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with Analysts, Technical Executives, and Laboratory Managers to resolve technical issues.
- Provide training and technical guidance to laboratory personnel on diagnostic concepts and interpretation.
- Coordinate with instrument suppliers and service engineers when technical support is required.
- Support workload planning and prioritization of diagnostic activities.
Required Qualifications
- BE in Mechanical
- Additional certification MLA I/MLA II in Reliability Engineering, Tribology, Lubrication, or Condition Monitoring is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in Oil Condition Monitoring, Petroleum Testing, Lubricant Analysis, or Diagnostic Services.
- Experience in interpreting oil analysis reports for industrial, automotive, marine, wind energy, mining, or power sector applications.
- Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as ICP, FTIR, GC, Viscometer, Particle Counter, PQ Analyzer, and other OCM-related equipment.
