As a separate entity, we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care. #BetterDaysStartNow Leader, Cloud Operations (Multi-Cloud) **Role Summary** The Leader, Cloud Operations is responsible for defining, governing, and continuously improving the operational model for the company's cloud environments across AWS and Azure. This role owns operations strategy, standards, SRE practices, runbook definitions, and change governance, while a Managed Service Provider (MSP) executes the majority of L1/L2 operational activities under clearly defined and approved runbooks. This is a control-plane leadership role, not a hands-on operations role. Success depends on clarity of ownership, disciplined governance, solid MSP oversight, and measurable operational outcomes. The role partners closely with Cloud Platform Engineering, Security, Networking, and Product teams to ensure cloud operations are predictable, auditable, resilient, and cost-aware across providers. **Key Responsibilities** Cloud Operations Strategy & Operating Model - Own the multi-cloud operations strategy across AWS and Azure, aligned to business criticality, regulatory requirements, and risk posture. - Define and maintain the cloud operating model, including service ownership, RACI boundaries, escalation paths, and MSP engagement model. - Establish clear separation of responsibilities: - **Internal team:** strategy, standards, governance, approval authority - **MSP:** L1/L2 execution of approved runbooks and operational procedures **Standards, Governance & Control Ownership** - Define operational standards and policies for monitoring, alerting, incident response, change execution, backup, patching, and recovery. - Own cloud change policy and approval authority, including pre-approved changes, emergency change handling, and break-glass controls. - Ensure all operational practices are auditable, documented, and aligned with regulated-setting expectations. **SRE & Reliability Leadership** - Establish and mature SRE practices including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident severity models, and post-incident reviews. - Own the definition of incident management processes, communication standards, and escalation criteria. - Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce incident frequency, improve MTTR, and eliminate repeat failures. **MSP Oversight & Service Management** - Own the MSP relationship for cloud operations, including scope definition, onboarding, SLAs, KPIs, and escalation models. - Ensure the MSP executes only within approved runbooks and change authorities. - Conduct regular service reviews, performance assessments, and corrective action planning.
- Hold the MSP accountable for execution quality, documentation updates, and operational hygiene. **Observability & Operational Readiness** - Define observability standards (monitoring, logging, alerting) in partnership with Platform Engineering. - Ensure operational dashboards, health reporting, and KPIs provide clear visibility to leadership. - Own operational readiness reviews for new platforms, services, and major changes before production rollout. **Security, Risk & Compliance Operations** - Partner with Security to operationalize findings management, remediation workflows, and response SLAs. - Ensure incident, change, and access records meet audit and regulatory expectations. - Support audits and risk reviews with clear operational evidence and traceability. **Financial & Capacity Operations** - Partner with FinOps and Platform Engineering to manage operational cost drivers (logging volume, idle resources, data transfer). - Ensure capacity planning, backup validation, and resilience testing are executed and reviewed regularly. **Leadership & Talent Development** - Build and lead a small, senior internal cloud operations function focused on governance, oversight, and reliability engineering. - Develop operational leaders skilled in vendor management, incident command, and systems thinking. - Foster a culture of accountability, discipline, and continuous improvement. **Required Qualifications** - 8+ years of experience in cloud or infrastructure operations, including 3+ years in leadership or management roles. - Proven experience operating multi-cloud environments (AWS and Azure) at enterprise scale. - Strong background in incident management, operational governance, and reliability engineering. - Demonstrated experience managing and governing MSP-delivered operations. - Experience operating in regulated or audit-heavy environments. **Preferred Qualifications** - Experience implementing SRE practices across distributed cloud environments. - Familiarity with CSPM-driven operational workflows and findings remediation. - Experience supporting cloud transformations, separations, or platform modernization initiatives. **Success Measures** - Clear, enforced operational boundaries between internal teams and MSP execution. - Improved reliability outcomes including reduced incident severity and improved MTTR. - High-quality, audit-ready operational evidence with minimal exception handling. - Strong MSP performance against SLAs, KPIs, and execution quality standards. - High stakeholder confidence in cloud operational stability and governance. **Physical Job Requirements** The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position. **Benefits & Compensation** **MiniMed offers a competitive salary and flexible benefits package** At MiniMed, we put people first.
