Senior Android Developer – Kotlin

Location: India (Remote)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Experience: 5–8 years of software development experience, including at least 4 years of hands-on Android application development using Kotlin

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Android Developer to design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise-grade mobile applications using Kotlin. The developer will be responsible for building new features, maintaining the existing application, resolving production issues, improving application performance, and ensuring a secure and seamless user experience.

The ideal candidate should have solid expertise in Android architecture, Kotlin, API integration, application security, testing, deployment, and production support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin.

• Develop new application features and enhance existing functionality based on business requirements.

• Provide L2/L3 production support, troubleshoot application issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes.

• Work with product owners, business analysts, UI/UX designers, backend developers, QA teams, and DevOps engineers.

• Translate functional and technical requirements into scalable application components.

• Follow Android development best practices and architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVI, or Clean Architecture.

• Integrate mobile applications with RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, SDKs, and third-party platforms.

• Build responsive user interfaces using Jetpack Compose and Android XML layouts.

• Implement secure authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, biometrics, or enterprise SSO.

• Optimize application performance, memory utilization, battery consumption, network usage, and startup time.

• Identify and resolve crashes, ANRs, performance bottlenecks, and device-specific issues.

• Develop unit tests, UI tests, integration tests, and automated regression tests.

• Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding, security, and documentation standards.

• Support CI/CD pipelines and application releases to managed enterprise stores or Google Play Store.

• Monitor production stability using crash reporting, logging, analytics, and application performance-monitoring tools.

• Maintain technical documentation, release notes, support runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, estimation, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.

• Stay current with Android platform updates, Kotlin enhancements, security requirements,



and mobile-development best practices.

Mandatory Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin and Android SDK.

• Robust understanding of Android application lifecycle and component lifecycle.

• Experience with Kotlin Coroutines and asynchronous programming.

• Strong knowledge of MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, SOLID principles, and common design patterns.

• Experience integrating REST APIs using Retrofit, OkHttp, or similar frameworks.

• Experience with JSON parsing, API error handling, pagination, caching, and offline capabilities.

• Experience with dependency-injection frameworks such as Hilt, Dagger, or Koin.

• Good knowledge of local storage using Room, SQLite, DataStore, or encrypted storage.

• Experience with Git and branching strategies.

• Experience with Gradle, Android Studio, build variants, product flavors, and dependency management.

• Experience writing unit and UI tests using JUnit, Mockito/MockK, Espresso, and Compose UI testing.

• Understanding of mobile application security, secure storage, encryption, certificate pinning, and OWASP Mobile guidelines.

• Experience troubleshooting crashes, ANRs, memory leaks, and performance issues.

• Familiarity with Firebase Crashlytics, App Distribution, Analytics, or equivalent platforms.

• Working knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or Bitrise.

• Good understanding of Google Play Store release, signing, versioning, and application-publishing processes.

Production Support Expectations

• Investigate and resolve production incidents within agreed service levels.

• Analyze logs, crash reports, monitoring alerts, API failures, and user-reported issues.

• Perform root-cause analysis and document corrective and preventive actions.

• Support application releases, hotfixes, rollback activities, and post-release validation.

• Coordinate with backend, infrastructure, security, QA,



and service-management teams during major incidents.

• Participate in scheduled on-call or extended-hours support when required.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with Java-based Android applications and migrating Java components to Kotlin.

• Experience modernizing legacy Android applications to Jetpack Compose and current architecture standards.

• Knowledge of modular application architecture and reusable component development.

• Experience with Firebase Cloud Messaging and push notifications.

• Familiarity with accessibility, localization, and responsive design across different Android devices.

• Experience with enterprise mobility management platforms such as Microsoft Intune or VMware Workspace ONE.

• Exposure to mobile application security testing and vulnerability-remediation processes.

• Knowledge of SonarQube, static code analysis, code coverage, and quality gates.

• Experience working with Agile/Scrum teams and tools such as Jira and Confluence.

• Exposure to Kotlin Multiplatform will be an advantage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Five or more years of software-development experience with strong hands-on Android development expertise.

• Proven experience developing and supporting production-grade Android applications.

• Experience managing the complete mobile application lifecycle, from design and development through deployment and production support.
