The Prospect

Pencil Engineering is hiring a remote Mechanical Design Engineer to own SolidWorks modeling, weldment design, sheet metal design, and manufacturing drawings for our projects. This is a hands-on execution role, not a supervisory one. You'll be modeling, detailing, and issuing drawings that go straight to the shop floor.

This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving practical engineering challenges, understand manufacturing processes, and take ownership of delivering high-quality engineering documentation.

Key Responsibilities





Design mechanical systems, fabricated assemblies, and industrial equipment using SolidWorks.
Develop sheet metal, weldment, and structural fabrication models and assemblies.
Produce accurate manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and fabrication documentation.
Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve quality, cost, and manufacturability.
Review existing designs and implement engineering improvements.
Collaborate with internal engineers and clients to deliver technically sound solutions while meeting project schedules.
Occasionally run or support basic FEA studies (SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent) to validate designs

Minimum Qualifications

2-4 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, with SolidWorks as your primary tool
Strong, demonstrable experience in weldments and sheet metal design (this will be tested)
Ability to independently produce clean, manufacturing-ready d
