About the role
Bytebeam's API backend serves more than a million connected vehicles and hardware units. We are now building a separate, next-generation platform to power fleet management, device commands, configuration, and data queries at greater scale.
The high-level architecture is in place. You will turn it into a reliable production system, shaping the detailed design and making the engineering decisions that determine its p99 latency, query performance, and reliability.
What you'll do
Build Bytebeam's greenfield, next-generation API backend in Rust.
Design and implement APIs and data-serving paths backed by PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and DuckDB.
Measure and improve p99 latency, query performance, throughput, and reliability under production workloads.
Own services in production, including deployments, observability, capacity planning, on-call, and incident response.
Lead projects end to end and mentor junior engineers in teams of no more than three people.
What we're looking for
5+ years building and operating production backend systems.
Strong production experience in Rust; 3-4 years is preferred. Experience with libraries such as axum, actix, sqlx, or SeaORM is helpful.
Strong systems fundamentals across concurrency, networking, storage, and failure handling.
Deep understanding of database and query optimization. Production experience with PostgreSQL and ClickHouse is a big plus.
A robust bias toward measuring systems before optimizing them, especially p99 latency, query performance, and throughput.
Experience owning production reliability and mentoring engineers.
Why Bytebeam
Build a greenfield platform informed by the real workloads of more than a million connected units.
Own meaningful systems from detailed design through production operation.
Work in small, high-ownership teams with a direct line between your decisions and customer impact.
