Job Summary
The candidate should have strong experience in designing electronic product enclosures, including wall-mounted panels, switch boxes, PCB housings, control units, adapter enclosures, and consumer-electronics assemblies. The role requires balancing aesthetics, manufacturability, thermal performance, electrical safety, serviceability, and production cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and development of electronic enclosures for smart home panels, control modules, adapters, gateways, and related products.
- Design plastic and sheet-metal enclosures considering PCB mounting, connector access, cable routing, ventilation, heat dissipation, assembly sequence, screw bosses, snap fits, ribs, clips, and service access.
- Ensure enclosure designs meet electrical safety requirements, including creepage and clearance considerations, insulation barriers, earthing provisions, flame-retardant material selection, and protection against accidental contact with live parts.
- Coordinate with PCB, electronics, firmware, and industrial-design teams to ensure correct placement of displays, touch glass, LEDs, buttons, connectors, antennas, sensors, relays, and power components.
- Design for IP protection requirements where applicable, including gasket selection, sealing features, cable entry protection, and dust/moisture resistance.
- Evaluate thermal performance of enclosures for high-load modules, power supplies, relays, and other heat-generating electronic components.
- Review enclosure prototypes for fitment, aesthetics, structural strength, touch-panel alignment, PCB clearances, connector accessibility, and ease of assembly.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in electronic enclosure design for consumer electronics, IoT products, electrical panels, smart switches, controllers, gateways, adapters, or similar products.
- Robust knowledge of enclosure features such as screw bosses, snap fits, ribs, living hinges, heat staking, ultrasonic welding, gasket grooves, cable routing, PCB supports, connector cut-outs, and ventilation.
- Knowledge of PCB-to-enclosure integration, tolerance stack-up between PCB, touch glass, display, connectors, and external housing components.
- Familiarity with materials used for electronic enclosures, including ABS, PC, PC-ABS, FR-grade plastics, nylon, aluminum, sheet metal, silicone, and rubber.
- Understanding of thermal management, electrical safety, IP rating concepts, EMI/EMC-related mechanical provisions, and serviceability requirements.
Preferred Skills
- Experience designing smart touch panels, modular switch panels, wall-mounted electronic products, high-load adapters, power-supply housings, and DIN-rail or junction-box enclosures.
- Experience with glass-to-plastic bonding, capacitive touch-panel integration, adhesive selection, and gap/tolerance control.
- Familiarity with IEC/IS requirements relevant to electronic and electrical enclosures.
