Job Description – VTL / VMC Operator

Department: Machine Shop Division
Position: VTL / VMC Operator
Industry: Valve Component Manufacturing
Reporting To: Production Supervisor / Machine Shop In-charge

Key Responsibilities:
- Operate VTL/VMC machines for machining valve components.
- Read and understand engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and machining specifications.
- Perform machine setting, tool selection, tool offset correction, and workpiece loading/unloading.
- Set and operate CNC programs as per approved process requirements.
- Check component dimensions using vernier caliper, micrometer, bore gauge, height gauge, and other measuring instruments.
- Maintain required dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and machining quality.
- Monitor tool wear and replace/correct tools when required.
- Identify machining defects and inform the supervisor/quality department.
- Follow production targets, cycle times, and process instructions.
- Maintain 5S, housekeeping, and cleanliness around the machine.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements,



and machine operating instructions.
- Record production quantities, rejection/rework details, tool changes, and other required production data.
- Carry out basic machine maintenance and report abnormalities to the maintenance team.
- Minimize tool consumption, rejection, rework, and machine downtime.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Tool Room, and Maintenance teams when required.

Qualification:
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Machinist, Tool & Die, or related trade.
- CNC/VTL/VMC training or certification preferred.

Experience:
- Fresher: ITI candidates with CNC/VTL/VMC training can be considered.
- Experienced: 2–5 years of experience in CNC VTL/VMC machining, preferably in valve, forging, casting, or precision engineering components.
