Responsibilities

A Microsoft Active Directory Domain Migration Architect is a specialized IT professional who designs, implements, and manages the migration of Active Directory domains from one environment to another, often for cloud migration or upgrades. They must possess strong technical expertise, including experience with Active Directory architecture, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
- Developing detailed migration plans, including scope, target environments, and timelines.
- Using tools like ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool) to move users, computers, groups, and other objects between domains or forests.
- Supervising the execution of the migration, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring data integrity.
- Providing assistance to users and administrators after the migration is complete,



including troubleshooting and ongoing support.
- Implementing security best practices to protect the migrated Active Directory environment.
- Diagnosing and resolving problems related to Active Directory, DNS, and related technologies.
- Staying informed about the latest Microsoft products, technologies, and migration methodologies.

Required Skills and Experience:

Active Directory Expertise
- Deep understanding of AD architecture, domain/forest structure, and trust relationships.
- Experience with domain migrations, consolidations, and domain controller placement.
- Solid grasp of FSMO roles, replication topology, and Global Catalog usage.

DNS and Networking
- Solid knowledge of DNS configuration and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with WAN links, latency, site-to-site VPNs, and how they impact AD replication.
- Understanding of subnetting and AD Sites and Services.
