The Investigative Executive Reporter serves as the content leader for a current 10PM accountability newscast, overseeing investigative reporting, story development, and editorial quality. This role supports the launch and growth of a new 10 p.m. accountability news program focused on investigative reporting, community issues, and public/government systems. The position requires deep investigative journalism experience and the ability to build and lead a team focused on accountability, explanatory, and solutions journalism that serves Houston Strivers.

Responsibilities

Investigative & Content Leadership

Lead editorial decisions on story selection, investigative priorities, and storytelling approaches for the 10PM newscast
Create systems and workflows to manage a team of reporters and photographers to hit deadlines and maintain high standards
Develop and oversee investigative projects that expose systemic failures, demand accountability, and elevate solutions
Manage the investigative reporting team,



ensuring stories meet journalistic standards and differentiate from traditional news approaches
Coach reporters on investigative techniques, source development, and accountability journalism
Identify enterprise opportunities that set this program apart from competitors

Story Development & Quality Control

Work closely with Executive Producer and Manager of Content and Coverage (MCC) on show development, content, and digital strategies
Review and improve scripts, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the program’s accountability mission
Guide reporters on transforming complex issues into accessible, impact-focused stories
Develop investigative segments including accountability stories, follow-up reporting on results, explainers, and public spending investigations
Ensure all content answers: “Why should viewers care?” and “What’s the accountability angle?”
Maintain balance between investigation and solutions in show content
