- Perform server mounting/unmounting, rack installation, cabling, labeling, and physical verification
in the data center.
- Work hands-on with Intel, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Huawei server platforms.
- Assemble servers and carry out replacement of faulty parts including:
- Motherboard, SMPS/PSU, NIC cards, RAID controllers, disks (HDD/SSD/NVMe), fans, etc.
- Diagnose hardware failures using vendor tools/logs, LEDs, iDRAC/iLO/IMM/management consoles,
and physical checks.
- Coordinate with procurement/spares/vendor support for RMAs and replacement cycles.
- Maintain accurate inventory and documentation of hardware assets, serial numbers, and rack
layouts.
Storage, RAID & Disk Management
- Configure and troubleshoot Hardware RAID (RAID 0/1/5/6/10 as applicable).
- Perform disk partitioning on RAID, filesystem creation, and validation post deployment.
- Replace failed disks and ensure successful rebuilds with minimal downtime.
Firmware & System Maintenance
- Execute firmware updates for servers and components (BIOS, iDRAC/iLO, RAID firmware, NIC
firmware, SSD/NVMe firmware).
- Follow maintenance windows, update procedures, rollback plans, and post-upgrade validation
checklists.
- Ensure compliance with internal standards for firmware baselines and security advisories.
Operating Systems (Linux & Windows)
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows Server on bare metal hardware.
- Perform OS-level troubleshooting related to boot issues, drivers, storage recognition, services,
performance, and patching.
- Configure users, permissions, system services, and baseline hardening as per company standards.
Networking Fundamentals & IP Configuration
- Demonstrate strong understanding of:
- IPv4 public/private addressing, subnetting, gateway concepts, VLAN basics (if applicable).
- Configure static IP assignment on Linux systems (based on the OS distribution used internally).
- Validate connectivity and troubleshoot common network issues (DNS, gateway, routing basics,
port access).
Linux Administration & Service Operations
- Install and manage packages on Linux using distribution package managers.
- Manage services using standard tools (e.g., start/stop/restart/reload services).
- Use SSH and terminal tools for remote administration and troubleshooting.
Tools & Remote Access
- Use SSH, PuTTY, and RDP effectively to access and support servers and systems.
- Utilize out-of-band management tools (where applicable) for diagnostics and recovery.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience with server hardware support and data center operations.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Intel / Dell / HP / Lenovo / Huawei server environments
- Rack operations, component installation, and replacements
- Hardware RAID setup and disk partitioning
- Firmware upgrades (servers + SSD/NVMe components)
- Experience in Windows and Linux OS installation and troubleshooting.
- Solid understanding of IPv4 addressing, public vs private IPs, and subnetting.
- Linux basics:
- Static IP configuration
- Package installation
- Service management (start/stop/reload)
- Comfortable using SSH/PuTTY/RDP.
Preferred / Valuable-to-Have
- Experience working in cloud/data center environments supporting customer workloads.
- Familiarity with:
- Remote management consoles (iDRAC/iLO/etc.)
- Basic server hardening and patch management practices
- Documentation and SOP writing
