• Responsible for the safe, comfortable and comprehensive nursing care for all patients in her/his unit.
• Follow infection control policies and biomedical waste management guidelines.
• To be well groomed, punctual & adhere to company policies and practices.
• Collaborate and co-ordinate care with other health professionals to ensure a quality service.
• Communicate effectively, positively and courteously with patients and the health care team.
• Resolve problems and conflicts effectively using organizational structures and processes.
• Supervise a team of nurses and nursing support workers in the day-to-day assessment of nursing needs of patients.
• Co-ordinate the delivery of safe and effective nursing care during the day and at night.
• Assess the patient acuity and assign patients to the nursing staff based on their competency.
• Recognize potential hazards in the workplace and deal with own capability or report promptly as appropriate.
• Help in the implementation of hospital policies and ensure the compliance.
• Frequently communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information about the management of staff and physical resources to the nursing supervisor/ANS.
• Ensure the correct usage of equipment and assist in the training of others as required
• Assist in the recording of appropriate patients/staff, ward statistical data as directed by the Nursing superintendent/Nursing supervisors.
• Maintain daily census of the patients in the unit and report the critically ill patients/emergencies/unusual occurrences to Supervisor/ANS/NS.
• Create a positive work environment and address concerns and grievances of subordinates.
• Keep the attendance of all staff and report staff absenteeism for the replacements.
• Impart planned and incidental teaching to subordinates and support staff.
• Provide feedback to the Nursing supervisor/managers on individual staff progression or identify any concerns and document.
• Ensure that the ward is well equipped with required articles to impart quick and protected nursing care.
• Make list for condemnation of articles quarterly and submit it to all the concerned.
• Act as liaison officer between ward staff and hospital administration.
• Maintain good public relations in her/his ward/unit.
• Encourage staff development program in her/ his ward/unit
• Participate in clinical audit and QIPs within the ward area to ensure continuous development of evidenced based practice.
• Plan vacations for her staff in coordination with them and send vacation roster to nursing office by December for the coming year.
• Plan and implement Orientation programme for the new staff nurses in her ward
• Identify the learning needs of her staff and train and teach them accordingly
• Make arrangement for her staff to attend in-service education training programmes planned by the Nursing Superintendent and Training Department.
• Actively participate in the appraisal of the staff working in her unit.
• Keep staff apprised of all communication and new information concerning hospital activities and patient care received from Nursing office and Hospital Administrators.
• Any other assignments given by the Nursing Superintendent as and when required.
