About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Manager Operations to manage and monitor credit risk for our digital personal loan portfolio. The role will be responsible for developing and monitoring underwriting policies, customer eligibility criteria, credit decision rules and risk appetite while maintaining an optimal balance between portfolio growth, approval rates and credit quality.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in unsecured digital lending, preferably within a Fintech or NBFC, with strong exposure to automated underwriting, rule engines and co-lending arrangements with banking partners.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Risk & Underwriting
- Monitor and evaluate credit risk policies for the digital personal loan portfolio.
- Define and periodically review customer eligibility criteria, underwriting parameters and risk appetite.
- Review Business Rule Engine (BRE) performance, approval rates, decline rates and portfolio quality.
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging credit risks and trends.
- Regularly review underwriting policies and recommend changes based on portfolio behaviour, customer characteristics and market trends.
- Develop and optimise credit decision rules to improve risk-adjusted portfolio performance.
- Ensure an appropriate balance between loan approvals, portfolio growth and expected credit losses.
Portfolio Monitoring & Analytics
- Track key portfolio metrics including approval rates, delinquency, roll rates, losses and other relevant credit risk indicators.
- Conduct periodic portfolio reviews to assess the effectiveness of existing credit policies.
- Analyse customer behaviour and identify trends that may require changes in underwriting strategies.
- Recommend corrective actions and policy interventions based on portfolio performance.
- Support the development of risk monitoring frameworks and periodic credit risk reports.
Co-Lending & Partner Management
- Coordinate with partner banks and lending institutions on risk-sharing arrangements and underwriting standards.
- Ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of co-lending agreements.
- Monitor adherence to jointly agreed credit policies, processes and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Participate in periodic portfolio and performance reviews with lending partners.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve credit policy and operational issues.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure digital lending practices and underwriting processes comply with applicable RBI regulations and digital lending guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to approved credit policies, risk parameters and internal governance frameworks.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required information, documentation and explanations.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of credit policies, decision rules and policy changes.
- Ensure timely implementation of approved changes to underwriting policies and credit decision rules.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of unsecured digital lending and personal loan credit risk.
- Hands-on experience with automated underwriting systems and Business Rule Engines (BREs).
- Understanding of credit policy design, underwriting frameworks and risk appetite.
- Strong analytical and portfolio monitoring skills.
- Experience in managing or monitoring co-lending portfolios with banks will be highly preferred.
- Knowledge of digital lending regulations and applicable RBI guidelines.
- Ability to analyse portfolio trends and translate insights into actionable credit policy changes.
- Solid stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work with technology, analytics, business and lending partner teams.
Experience & Qualification
- 3–10 years of relevant experience in Credit Risk / Credit Policy / Underwriting.
- Experience in unsecured digital lending, personal loans, Fintech or NBFCs is preferred.
- Experience with automated underwriting, BREs and credit decision engines is required.
- Exposure to co-lending arrangements with banks or financial institutions will be an added advantage.
- Minimum qualification: Graduate; postgraduate qualification in Finance, Economics, Risk Management or a related field would be preferred.
Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be someone who combines credit risk expertise with strong digital lending exposure and is comfortable working across business, technology, analytics and lending partner teams. The candidate should be able to independently assess portfolio performance, identify emerging risks and translate insights into effective underwriting and credit policy decisions.
